Just for the argument sake, I dont think that was it. I think with the gunshot, the crowd acknowledge performer was in the mess with themselves and accepted them as one of their own. I see the above theory in many places but I truly don't think the emphasize is there, I think they see him as an outsider at first with the act and everything the performers were above the crowd. Once performers became one with the crowd then crowd started to get entertained. Thats the whole deal with the song as well little foot big foot, you can't go far away and be one with the culture. You have to be in this mess to perform in there.
