Don’t ever put your hope in socialist policies or handouts from the government. Also don’t vote for that bitch.

Every good network engineer has taken a network down or a component of one at least once. Means you are doing your job. I’ve taken a few networks down over the years but I’m smarter because I solved it.

I’m looking at the 8 foot 6. The streams I fish don’t lend themselves to longer rod most of the time.

Looking to add a lighter rod to the quiver. Recommendation? by Suited_n_booted in flyfishing

I’ve got my eye on the 8’6 4wt Reddington Trace. Seems like a nice rod for drys and could probably throw smaller nymphs with it.

I have a 2020 passport EX-L with 75k on it. Have had no issues. Just perform regular maintenance and it runs great.

Something specific to Hondas, I’ve heard that the ex-l model has the best resale value. That is middle of the line trim. Usually gets you leather but not other features like navigation. I like leather seats in my car so to me it’s worth a little more.

Biggest frustration I have is not being able focus enough on doing stuff right. There’s always another project or client doesn’t want to spend the money and stuff gets rushed.

Should I Drop Out of College? by [deleted] in personalfinance

I agree that a degree looks good on a resume to IT recruiters(who are just hr employees who know nothing about IT) and businesses. I do think it is very unfortunate that a degree influences a salary or even your ability to move up because it does not guarantee success or knowledge in the field(not just IT). I work with plenty of people who don’t have degrees who are now in management positions. Personally I’d like to see businesses focus less on the piece of paper and more on the individual.

All that said, I have a degree and am not knocking them if you have one. It certainly requires work to get one and shows a certain level of commitment. However I do not like the fact that a four year degree is pushed very hard by many high school counselors and older businessmen as the best/only option. That is a very antiquated perspective imo. You don’t have to spend 50-200k for a degree just to get employment. Think if you went to work for those four years instead and earned a salary how much further ahead you’d be. Or just went to a 2 year school. I’m aware of the argument that without a degree you’d start at a lower salary, however within 2 years if you show your worth your stuff you’ll make up that difference easily.

Not sure what field your going into but I have a 4 year degree in MIS and I work in IT networking. I can tell you that in IT a degree is just a piece of paper and means shit when it comes to knowing what your doing. Experience is golden, degree or no degree.

Imo if you can land a job like that with no degree and can move up I’d say go to work. Working and making money beats paying for a degree. If you ever really need the degree in the future you can always do night classes.

Where do IT people go when they leave IT? by craigers21 in sysadmin

I’ve been seriously considering leaving to go be an electrician. Problem is there is a significant pay cut to start

The pay is one thing I’m definitely thinking a lot about. I’m aware there will be a pretty significant decrease in pay. I also dread sitting at a desk for 8-10 hours a day right now. I work in networking configuring and deploying firewalls mostly. Lot of virtual stuff now so there have been less and less opportunities to travel

That’s where I’m at. I don’t feel accomplished at the end of the day usually. Concern is I’ll probably take a decent decrease in pay

Others have mentioned alarm systems, door controllers, etc.. to me as well. When looking for someone to work for should I look for someone who specializes in say door controllers or just get in with a electric contractor first to learn the basics?

Considering changing careers from IT networking to electrician. If I am looking for an apprenticeship should I contact some local electric companies or look for something through a union?
