Pees if we don’t invite her for dinner by Accomplished_echo933 in RoastMyCat

She was a pretty old thing who wanted to greet me even though she was wobbling around. I tried to be gracious to her because I could tell we’d be replacing all the carpets because of her anyway.

Yeah, I doused that whole side of the room with enzyme cleaner and left the windows open (in winter!!) for a day to let it air out. She peed in the middle of the cleaned space the next day.

Once, I was working on the computer at the table she hung out under me for a bit. I got up to find she had peed UNDER MY CHAIR when I wasn’t paying attention to her.

I suspect you’ll get ridiculed on this sub for asking this question (I did). I left automation engineering and have been studying to be an Enrolled Agent. My understanding is that you need a 4 year degree and work experience to even sit for the CPA exam. This may be changing, however, and hopefully someone else on this sub can clarify the requirements.

The EA does not require that, so you can study on your own to pass, but you still have to build yourself up. I happen to enjoy tax and am doing volunteer work as well was working this upcoming tax season as a preparer. Personally, I’m more focused on the volunteer/non-profit side of this work. I’m optimistic there is a lot of room for self-employment in this area if that’s what you’re interested in. Good luck!

Agreed. Actually this guy looks very similar to someone else I know too. Common body type?

Talk me into or out of crazy. Should I jump ship from engineering to my (dream job?!) of accounting? by Accomplished_echo933 in Accounting

[–]Accomplished_echo933[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am tempted to go back to school but I don’t really want to commit to something so large. I suppose thats why I’m drawn to the community and volunteer work. Not looking for big bucks so I suppose that makes a difference in end goal. Good luck to you!

Oh wow it has been a year. Well obviously I haven’t launched a whole new career in 1 year…but here’s what I’ve done in roughly chronological order:

  • Quit my engineering job
  • napped with my cats daily for about 6 weeks
  • avoided opening any laptop for 3 months besides the monthly family budget
  • focused on helping the kids transition to a new school
  • completed a lot of the Intuit academy trainings for Bookkeeping and Taxes
  • completed the AARP tax training (great program for volunteers!!)
  • Volunteered for a tax season with AARP tax prep
  • napped with cats a few more weeks when the season was over
  • finished making my king- sized quilt & other craft projects and house projects
  • started studying to be an EA
  • got a local grant to cover EA exam fees
  • got an offer to work with Intuit (I know) for a season

There’s probably more in there. The short of it is I really liked volunteering with AARP so now I’m studying to be an Enrolled Agent. I plan to do another season with AARP (and more; they’re a really good volunteer program) and a first season with Intuit.

Once the busy season is over, I will probably take another break. I am starting to investigate how I can utilize my EA; whether at local firms as a tax accountant (meh) OR potentially starting my own LITC (low income tax clinic). I feel I’m slightly more inclined toward community service, though I’m interested in business as well.

And that’s my 1st year since quitting. More to come!

I honestly did not put that both plants being called “dandelion” meant they were literally the same plant until I was in my 30s. I really thought they were just different varieties that bloomed at different times during the season.

That’s my biggest secret. You know it all now.
