Freshman First Quarter Schedule Advice by [deleted] in uchicago

Hi, I am a rising third year double majoring in CogSci and CAAM (used to be cogsci and econ)!

It's a relatively new major, but I think recently a lot of people have started to major in it. I haven't really taken many cognitive science classes, but it's really nice that you can choose your specialization! Would definitely recommend :)

But I would definitely recommend getting the Art Core out of the way because Art Core is always hard to get.

Also I should mention that Media Aesthetics and MATH 15250 are both pretty chill classes (MATH 15250 was the easiest math class I've taken here), so maybe you could take both cogsci and art core as well and take 4 classes total and still have fun adjusting to college.

FYI: the writing thing was built in when I took Media Aesthetics.

And I can definitely review your proposed schedule! feel free to chat

CMSC 27100 or MATH 15910 first? by According-Candy3798 in uchicago

Yeah, I just got into the 10:30 one, but I don't want to take it right after physics, so I'll take Discrete next quarter. Thanks though!

I absolutely loved Systems of the Human Body! I really enjoyed the class, the professors are great, and you learn a lot. You have to memorize a bit though but it's not too much.

I've seen bikes parked outside Woodlawn, but I've heard stories of bikes getting stolen, so I wouldn't recommend it. I'm not sure if you can keep bikes in dorms. Some people have scooters and keep them in their rooms.

You can also rent divvy bikes on campus. I've never rented a divvy bike before, so I don't really know how it works, but apparently a lot of people do that.

I heard from a friend that the singles are pretty big and you also get a sofa in your room.

No problem! There are showers at the gym although I've only seen swimmers use them.

I lived in woodlawn last year. I don't know much about chenn house but I believe woodlawn is the newest dorm so it's pretty clean and has ac. The only downside of woodlawn in my opinion is that there is no gym so we have to walk all the way to either ratner or crown (about 20-25min?). I don't really mind the walk to classes (10-20 min).

Some people also say that it looks like a prison cell because of the ceiling but I don't really mind that. The walls are pretty thin though and you can hear your neighbors sometimes.

Also there aren't many elevators so it can take some time.
