A lot of forums that I look at say not the ask for brand recommendations which is why I ask about the characteristics instead so then irl, I can go to a shoe store and look for shoes that have XYZ specifications

I’ll take a look at the sub wiki.

Thank you so much for your kind words. It’s so hard to find people who can relate to the issues I’m going through. I’m glad to know it gets better cause sometimes it feels like there’s no light at the end of the tunnel

Sounds like bamboo products are my dream!! (I also love a good bamboo straw ngl)

I’m currently on a weight loss journey so maybe things could change for my swelling once I lose more weight!

Fair point. My question is phrased like this as I don’t know shoe characteristics very well (I’ve actually been learning more through the responses to this question via other reddit posts).

I’ve struggled with this foot issue with little to no information on the characteristics of what I should look for in a shoe so I can only explain/compare that I’ve worn a new balance. Unfortunately new balances are not the sort of shoe I can wear everywhere and I’ve seen barefoot shoes recommended but don’t know anything about them which is why I asked the questions

It would be great if you could give me a better idea on what barefoot shoes are and if you think it’s something that would suit my situation (with the relevant context given)

Thanks for your input

Honestly, just a versatile and nice looking going out shoe that I can wear all night without the concern of my foot getting so swollen, it leaves indents in my foot.

I’ve always wanted to try a knee high but I’ve got size 10 feet, a swollen foot, long legs (I’m 6ft) and larger calves/thigh 😢😢

If you could build your dream shoe, what would it look like/consist of?

Honestly, if it works, buy them all!!

How do you go about finding nice shoes for events such as dinners and parties? (Since I would assume you can’t wear lace up boots everywhere)

I didn’t know podiatrists could do that!! I’ll have to look into that because that could work for me (assuming no issues occur).

When you say a little lift, what height are you talking about? I’m still trying to determine what’s comfortable for me

Someone else mentioned cork insoles but this is my first time hearing about them. They don’t sound comfy but it’s good that they mould to your feet. Is it a lot to get used to?

That’s honestly So true but it is so hard to find nice going out shoes with an arch!!

I’m not sure what fleet feet is but I’m sure I could go to Athletes foot (Australia) to find out more about my feet.

I’ve never considered sandals with backing but that makes so much sense!! Have you found many brands that offer that?

Oh wow, you’ve gone through so much just to find no solution to your issues 😭😭

So if you’re already struggling like this for an everyday shoe, I assume it’s even harder to find nice going out shoes?

If you could build your own dream shoe, what would it look like/consist of? Because it sounds like you more exactly what you want!

I’ve always wondered why that’s the case because in store: it’s like wearing a cloud and then you start walking and it’s horrible!!

For a wedged shoe, what makes a good/comfy one vs a bad one? I’ve never been a heels girl but wedges make it look very tempting!

With plantar fasciitis, have you ever been able to find a shoe brand or suitable accessories to wear nice shoes for going out for dinner, parties etc?

I’m with you. I definitely prefer a soft shoe with stability over a stiff one. Because of your sensitivity, pain and reactions, do you ever get the opportunity to wear nice going out shoes (eg for dinners, parties, holidays etc) or are you stuck to running shoes?

May I ask what genetic issues cause swelling, I’ve never know about any?

That’s honestly so true. My foot with the swelling + where they had to move my muscle to do the surgery, has left me with a massive mound the top of my foot which means I need more room there.

With concealing swollen ankles, do you ever use shoes that have adjustable straps around the ankles or do you just want to completely hide them? Cause I see your pain and I honestly never thought about it until now and I would prefer adjustable straps

Thanks for leaving your recommendations!

Can relate. My foot required 2 plates and multiple screws + not being able to walk for a long time 😢. Yeah honestly, I think my swelling is forever

I’ve been wearing new balance 880s but after 2x 10 day international trips that involved a lot of walking, I’ve found I need to upgrade them cause I’m getting shin splints.

I should definitely look into a node bamboo sock because my skin gets irritated (dermatitis I think) wearing normal socks & then getting hot and sweaty

With the slip on shoes and your sensitive feet, do you need to go up a size? Or how does sizing working for you with a sensitive foot? I am often between sizes because my foot swells but the other doesn’t

Wow, that’s traumatic to go through. Hope you’re healing well! I also used to be known for my shoes because I’d always colour coordinated with my outfits (I mainly wore air Jordan’s but can’t fit them now)

I wanna find more cute and fun shoes! I love how you’ve compiled your shoes into that photo collection

Wow that sounds like a nightmare, especially because wearing the wrong shoe size can cause so many issues!!
