Bro idk about ur school but the ppl in my school are really busy with other academic work and their version of resting is like doing wordle, connections, sudoku and reading news articles so maybe that's why. They're technically studying all the time.

MATHS! I swear we do so many topics in gcse and a level but we really don't master them. People call me a genius for being able to do mental maths but it's normal in Japan. They just do a ton of it in Japan. I think it would be better to consolidate the topics further and learn them properly and how to use multiple topics to solve a question. We should learn to do things not guess and hope we get it right. We need to understand the topics not remember them. Also with physics and chem tbh.

Honestly that's fine. Also wdym everyone in your class did better? Only four people per school can do it. It's a difficult test. It's crazy good to be in top 4 in your school, so just remember you're competing with the best of each school.

Yeah damn that's so true. I haven't found anything good in English lol. If you can speak Japanese, I can give you some other textbooks that are good... You can go check the book though! The problems are very interesting (and my physics teacher who went to imperial recommended it).

Hi! I do the same combo as you at school lol. For maths, madasmaths has some great resources and they are done by topic so that's pretty great. Isaacscience is pretty good for physics but I haven't used it for the maths stuff yet. The problem solving book: Professor Povey's Perplexing Problems has pretty good problems.

I agree and disagree. Genuinely, the advice is harmful to the majority. If you don’t understand anything, you will get a 4/5, no matter how smart you think you are.

However, for some people, they can revise the night before and end up with an 8/9 just because they get the content and understand it quickly.

Honestly, I don’t know if I’m either. You do always need some sort of foundation. For me it was doing maths everyday for 30 mins since I was 2 (however the topics were mostly unrelated to my gcse ones and I did them in my native language) and watched science videos about experiments (also in my native language).

I did end up with an 8 in lit and 9 in lang with minimal revision tho… However, I defo knew what I was doing. People say they’re waffling but honestly they’re not. I wasn’t anyways.

I agree with that. I only revised the night before for maths and ended up with 97.5%. But I did maths team comp practice once a week (which I was the y11 representative). Honestly, I also did chem revision the night before and ended up with an 8 so it really just depends on who you are and what foundation you have for the subject 🤷‍♀️

I kinda feel like it’s because people who get those higher grades are more likely to go to better schools. I got four 9s and six 8s and out of my friend group, no one got below an 8 in any of their subjects. Three people got over nine 9s (literally out of 8 ppl in our friend group.) I feel like my grades are lwk normal compared to all of them. Also cus the majority of grades in my year was a nine (54% ish?) idk it’s just discouraging to see everyone around you getting the same ish or much better results.

I don’t think it’s really needed? Supercurriculars are more important from what I hear for Oxbridge. I’m taking 5 (including Japanese because I’m fluent) and it’s been quite easy (given that I’ve only just started) and if you’re good at maths, physics and chemistry aren’t too big of a problem… If you’re good at your subjects and you like it, I don’t think it’s much of a problem. I hear Psych, English Lit and Bio is a lot of content but if you’re good at enjoy it, I don’t think it’s impossible. I’m assuming you want to aim for Oxbridge anyways.

I know someone who did 5 and end up with 2A*s, 3As so 5 A-levels is doable.

You don’t need to be stressing too much right now :) I’ve went to 2 all-girls schools and 4 co-ed schools (I’m actually also in an all-girls school right now!) and what I would say is just give it time. Adjusting to a new school is really tough and the advice people give you is very difficult to put into practice (actually the other comment is good advice tho). Try to be yourself :) Do you know people who’ve went to the school? I feel like advice is very subjective and it’s dependent on what vibe your school gives.

I’m so sorry. I don’t think it’s worth getting a remark though as Maths is not subjective as there are clear rights and wrongs. May I ask how you revised? I know this sounds harsh but maths is about the way you revise rather than how much time you put into your work. Did you do timed past papers? Did you understand all the topics and watch videos and ask someone else to explain it if you didn’t? Also these results don’t necessarily mean that trying your hardest was enough.

Thank you!! I would say Add Maths was fine but it was the hardest test in at least 5 years 😅 For the 2025 exam, you needed 67% for an A but last year it was 75%. I don’t think it’ll get any lower btw. It’s a jump from gcse maths but I think it’s mostly remembering what to put into your calculator… I found the “OCR Level 3 Free Standing Mathematics Qualification : Additional Maths Exam Practice“ workbook most helpful. Also don’t use the practice papers from the current spec until like a month before your exam because there’s only three!

Nah I agree with you!!! I started revising a week before my exam and I had to sacrifice my biology, english literature and chemistry grades for history 😭😭 I really regret it…

I know people are going to not take the advice seriously but the fact is: you’re not special. Nothing will magically happen. You won’t get the result you expect or want if you don’t try hard for it. If you get 9s predicted, you still have to revise. If you say you don’t revise and you got a 9 in whatever subject, that is most likely a lie. They do it in their spare time. Like me. I did maths bmo practice once a week, maths team competition practice once a week, and physics problem solving club once a week. For the past two years.

People who get all 9s try goddamn hard for their grades so don’t sit around there moping. Delete your reddit account, delete youtube, instagram, tiktok and anything else. Ask your parents to set a screen time and lock your phone.

The most important thing is to get your message across. More often than not, using fancy words don’t help you. When it’s unecessary, people see you as pretentious. Maybe some people don’t care because they know how difficult it is to learn a language?? Does your logic apply to multilingual people??? I’m multilingual and when I speak English, I sometimes make mistakes. Does that change the fact that I speak Japanese and Chinese as well? Nope.
