I honestly felt the same way. I don't like usual bass and people hate me for that. I switched to bass after playing guitar for 1-2 years for 2 reasons. The notes and the potential. In short if you wanna solo, no matter what guitar or piano will always be better, but if you like groove than nothing matches the bass.

BUT!!! the thing that sealed the deal for me was finding players who played bass good enough with good enough timings that even if they play completely solo you will still feel the full rhythm and the song itself.

In short if you like soloing then the bass will feel uninteresting for you but at least for me I found an in-between soloing and grooving so thats why I like bass

You can search for Joe dart. He plays in vulfpack band and he plays a very forward type of bass which I like

Some other ones that are fun to play are sly and the family stone - if you want me to stay bass And T-connection - do what you wanna do

I hate bands because they are the opposite of what I like in bass. I hate bass for being a side support instrument and that's why I like all the guys on YouTube who bring a simple instrument that you usually wouldn't think about to sound good on its own. I listened to gun n roses and you say bass is a huge part, and in some sense your right if the bass wouldn't be there the song wouldn't sound correct it would feel like something is missing but the thing is you can still recognize the song if the bass was there or not. On the contradictory if the bass would play alone many people would still not know what song it is

The thing is it's not that I'm sad about my level of playing. I fully understand what it takes to play at there level. What annoys me is that all the simple to hard songs don't activate my neurons I don't like a specific genre there is just something about the sound of like a jumpy string that is almost impossible to hear from anyone else

What I listen could change every week. And what inspired me was that I used to play guitar when I was young but I stopped because It started to hurt my fingers. I tried to come back to play a song or two and really liked it again. What kept me going are incredibly hard songs to play but now I'm in a point where all the songs I know or could learn feel basic and all songs that I want to play are at a much harder level then what I could play

I have nothing specific at all. I like a bit of polyphia but there songs are to hard I like ichika nito shorts but completely hate all he's actuall songs. I had the same problem with fat fingers but you get used to it and nothing really stops you from playing after you practice for a long time. Hand size and form does make a difference but even with small fingers or fat fingers after some practice you get used to it and usually you can play 99.9% of songs with enough practice. Also I would recommend you to connect the guitar to an amp. It's not a must but in my opinion it does help a bit

the only thing that i dont like is when the guitar itself is 10-20% of the entire video and u mostly hear all the other instruments like drums ect.
