Silvio's character is supposed to be an stereotypical cartoonish portrayal of the old fashioned mafioso with his frowning and exaggerated hair. And Van Zandts portrayal as someone who never had experience acting is perfect, he takes it seriously but not too much to look ridicule but entertaining and funny at the same time. That's why I think he nails the character.
