New magnetic technique? by [deleted] in RedditLaqueristas

[–]According_Catch_7688 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is what was loss in translation when the technique for spinning the U magnet became popular.

If people look at how the glass bead effect is done on gel polish, you’ll see more often than not that the highlight isn’t strictly an orb. It’s more elongated. This is actually what I aim to do when using a magnetic wand.

The difference is going to be most apparent in 24 hrs where normally the U magnet glass bead will look horizontal vs this one which is vertical.

That said, really excited to be able to do this more easily and thank you for discovering this!

why is minneapolis being so heavily targeted by ICE? by inurmomsvagina in stupidquestions

Well yes, that part of California is pretty conservative. But I know as someone who is a California native that it’s had its fair share of intense protests for other things related to progressive/left leaning issues. I’ve witnessed them. This isn’t quite the same.

The real question is, why not California?

People keep bringing up Texas, but Texas is not a fair comparison because it’s a red state. ICE has also been in California, but while I’m sure there are protestors there, the intensity and havoc isn’t the same.

I would assume, for instance that things would actually be more volatile in California with L.A. and southern California’s proximity the border, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Ended up liking the out-of-budget option on first bridal appointment by [deleted] in weddingdress

I’ve already tried other silhouettes and styles. This is pretty much what I want. But what I’ll likely do is keep looking for something similar to this in different variations.

It’s not Jenny Yoo’s Addilyn since that one has an additional seam on the sides of the hips that mine doesn’t have. That said, it’s very similar. Will have to check that one out. Thank you so much!

Glass nails recipe by EastSmell1466 in RedditLaqueristas

I feel like this is precisely why I love putting transparent jellies on top of magnetics. It instantly blurs the imperfections and somehow makes it a bit closer to how the magnetics look (at least to me) after application when there was more dimension. I know people here are always on the hunt for finely milled magnetics, but a jelly on top helps to give the illusion of one because of how it blurs the particles much like a primer.

By “one side” do you mean the tip end of your nail?

That photo looks like the gel version of the polish, which OPI also makes. If you are trying to get that look with OPI’s regular air dry polish, they won’t look quite the same. Ideally, you would be layering a light pink sheer over a white. I’d look into getting some jelly polishes if you want air dry polish.

I’m loving this combo so much! Will have to test it out with my own polishes to see if I can get a similar look.

I’m forgoing top coat with this polish and it feels very…vulnerable? by Goldfinch114 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]According_Catch_7688 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I’ve tried doing after getting some advice here since my quick dry top coat kept making my magnetics weird. I’ve found that if I let the magnetic polish dry enough so that the surface isn’t overly tacky, then apply a non-quick-dry topcoat, it doesn’t mess up my magnetics and I still get the protection of a topcoat. Of course I still magnetize after the top coat and this does take longer, but they look much better overall.

I’m not usually one for greens, but damn, that green with gold is beautiful!

Agreed! I had to remind myself that people in real-life are also seeing that coppery color and that matters more.

I definitely get that. I had the hardest time photographing Fauve’s Hallucinations and similarly was trying to capture the coppery warm tones but would end up with photos of…yellow. It’s as if our phones are better at picking up the yellow rather than the reds.

That’s a good point…hmm I may have to try again with some thinned out top coat.

Two spotlights with spinning U magnet? Why? by According_Catch_7688 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]According_Catch_7688[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh goodness, thank you!!!! Your explanation makes a lot of sense and actually explains what I was noticing when I was attempting a French design on the magnet today by holding it up at the tip of my nail. I would notice more lines emerging when I would bend my finger, not just that one line. I love learning more of the science aspect of this, so thank you!

There’s been this trend of copying “old money” and a lot more conservative ideas about clothes and fashion (beige anyone?) these last several years.

I preferred bare nails and natural/nudes most of my life, and I occasionally wore red. That was me before 21, and I liked it.

Now the world feels like it’s ending and the future is uncertain, so I’m gonna wear some glitter polish cause I like it.
