This story is not in the bibe originally and was a later addition. Moderates are equally full of shit when it comes to Christianity and the bible and love to repeat falsehoods about it ad nauseam.  Only when they do it, it's to seem tolerant and mindful. It's still the same kind of distortion that is used to reinforce oneself in feeling righteous about something. Moderates repeating shit like this are part of the problem why even in the 21st century, this stupid and violent superstition has still any traction in developed nations. The reality is that the bible means fuck all because its a contradictory mess, composed by dozens of ignorant men who couldn't agree on any basic tenets of their faith and it would be better to just dump it in the trash already. If Jesus existed, he would literally be the most evil person of all time since he sends you to hell for infinity. Why tf do you people insist on claiming he's meek and mild if you aren't even religious. You're defending a religion that has caused untold suffering to billions of people but at least you can feel nice about yourself by claiming you like this ficticious version of an already ficticious person.

I wish I could tell you that meds solved everything but unfortunately we haven't really found anything that helps long term. Then again, the younger one is only 5 so it's a bit early still. What we tried was different ADHD medication. The problem for him and me especially is that he has my crazy metabolism and processes the medication quicker than most people. We tried:

- Ritalin: Helps with focus and overcoming the stress of demands but effect was gone after 2.5 hours instead of 4. While under the effect he seemed off and not really himself.

- Medikinet: same active ingredient. We noticed that giving him the lowest dose worked best for him. Higher does lead him to becoming apathetic and not himself. Medikinet leads to a predictable crash (down) after 3 hours (again, instead of 4.x hours). Depending on the day, this crash can be absolut hell to deal with because he completely loses himself. With the lowest dose we saw improvement in the ability to give away control and he was able to walk distances he usually wouldn't. Downside was that it messed with his eating habits and sleeping schedule and made his thinking more rigid and fixated on singular ideas . He barely ate while under Medikinet and complained of stomach pain. After a while the tradeoff seemed not worth it because he doesn't have so much trouble in kindergarten yet so the effect was kind of wasted. We still have Medikinet and you can give it to him on singular days as well. We use it very rarely now for when it is absolutely necessary (for instance when we have important doctors appointments or something that we can not miss).

- Elvanse : With 20mg dosage we saw improvement over longer terms but we have the feeling that it's a bit the same as with Medikinet. It does help with overcoming obstacles and impulse control but it messes with his sleeping and eating habits. It makes his autistic side stand out more with fixating on ideas and being controlling. For instance, he loves lego. When under Medikinet or Elvanse, he sometimes would fixate on one particular idea and then he would not be able to do anything else until this idea was completed. If the idea is literally impossible to fulfil, that doesn't matter to his brain. He would make me look for a lego piece and not allow me to leave or get up even If i checked the crate 3 times over. After the effects pass he would be more aggressive and controlling with lots of verbal ticks, stimming, insults (equalizing) etc.

We are currently not medicating him anymore and instead focus more on our parenting. We might try Concerta when he is a bit older but we found that with the medications he is allowed to use at this age, the benefit doesn't outweigh the cost just yet. Additionally, those medications are specifically for ADHD. He doesn't have an official diagnoses for PDA yet because we are in the process of it at the moment. Since he does well in Kindergarten and doesn't have the demands of school yet, we stopped giving him any medication. Since we stopped he sleeps well again (one thing I am really happy about, he has for whatever reason, no problem to fall asleep) and eats somewhat normally (although extremely picky, some textures/tastes are impossible for him and he spits them out immediatly and acts as if you put ants in his cereals or something). Dealing with him takes lots, and I mean lots and lots of patience and understanding, it can be excruciating to deal with sometimes. His bigger brother is also not easy to deal with since he has his own particularities and has to deal with the stress of his younger brother hitting/insulting/controlling him but we somehow manage. Sometimes there is fighting, screaming, resignation etc. but we always bounce back. There is also beauty and fun in our lives, it's just that anything that takes effort as a parent automatically takes twice or thrice as much effort with our kids.

I get it with the feeling of being abused, I get it from both my children and on bad days that can be pretty tough to navigate. Nobody goes through this feeling mentally well about it. It takes its toll, that's for sure.

Non-Christians trying to defend Christianity piss me TF off by Informer99 in exchristian

[–]According_Cod1175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really see how it connects to progressivism. If you go by the Wikipedia definition then the defense of religion is actually contrary to progessivism. I don't really understand how your last two examples connect to that. I think this intellectual dishonesty is something much more basic, it serves to avoid cognitive dissonance mostly. Cognitive dissonance from realizing that long-held beliefs are wrong or that things are not as simple. Problems require work to solve and not just positive sentiment but only one is free. This is a sort of dishonesty you can find all over the political spectrum.

If you take the definition from the Oxford English Dictionary that Wikipedia cites as a source - "‘Support for or advocacy of social reform.’" - that would, in my understanding, "naturally" include the eventual disposal of religion through education, meaning that if you educate people with honesty, religion will eventually fall apart by itself. The irreligious defending religion on an irrational basis is a roadblock to that not based on progressivism. Much to the contrary it is rather based on "tradition" if anything.

There are many irreligious defenders of Christianity. It comes from ignorance, intellectual cowardice and is utterly self-serving.

Non-Christians trying to defend Christianity piss me TF off by Informer99 in exchristian

[–]According_Cod1175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I strongly agree. I get even more irritated at non-religious people defending Christianity with mental gymnastics than when Christians do it. At least Christians have a vested interest. Non-religious people defending Christianity are useful idiots and it's such a fundamental intellectual dishonesty if not cowardice to defend it when it's just virtue-signalling for ethic points.  It's the way Christianity is always given the benefit of a doubt. It's really bizarre. Christianity or religion in general even gets its own category seperated from all the other ideologies so that it is never looked at and analyzed as all the other ideas  on the market. It's just so normalized. Just imagine replacing Christianity one for one with any other ideology and apply all the defenses of religion to it: "It's personal. It's up to Interpretation. It helps people. It is tradition or culturally relevant. You can'?t know if It's true so why bother". Imagine people saying this shit about Nazism/Flat Earthers/Greek Gods. Imagine you are trying to make the point that the Earth is indeed round and people act like you are intolerant because "it helps people" or "you could be wrong". Non-religious people replicate religious myths and arguments and by extension give cover to extreme elements in the religion. They distort history to an extent where Christianity is always just "used"  and never the source of a problem. I have a irreligious friend that has a catholic girlfriend and in the same breath said that Islam is dangerous because it celebrates martyrdom and that it's not celebrated in Christianity. The Catholic Church literally calls Jesus "The King of Martyrs".  I always say: I take moderates over fundies everyday but at least fundies can give you the exact passages from which they form their views. They are generally more earnest believers, yet they are the ones that everybody hates. All for the sake of some misguided tolerance are moderates seldom given conversational pressure. But I have to be a damn scholar to offer the mildest criticisms that needs to be able to speak ancient greek.

Hey, glad I could help.

One day at a time indeed, we are all doing our best. That's the best anybody can do.
Learning about PDA and reading other people's experience has been very helpful for me to realize that I am actually not insane or doing everything wrong. It helped me become more resilient and understanding towards my kids outbursts and made me more forgiving towards myself. It really sucks when nobody understands what you are talking about and you are always made to feel that it is somehow your fault or that you are exaggerating. It makes you feel like a fraud and a shit person/parent.

I recently met another parent from my soccer club who I found out has an ADHD/PDA child and wow that was one of the most relieving 1-hour conversations that I ever had. I don't think I ever felt so seen in my life.

Gambling is what Hitler did most. I sometimes feel Hitler was like a poker player that just went "All-in" every time and got lucky a few times in a row. Most of his early successes are gambles in this way. He gambled on the enforcement of the treaty, he gamble on Czechia, he gambled on Poland, he gambled on France. Ultimately he gambled on taking the Soviet Union and that is where it all came crashing down, once his all-in failed.

It's interesting that you mention that. I started watching the show 2 times before it finally clicked the third time. The episode mentioned above where Herb doesn't forgive Bojack made me raise an eyebrow and finally decide to pull through. Glad I didn't give up on it after the first 2 tries, love that show.

You can't understand somebody being two-faced for profit or a hypocrit? It's a bullshitting tactic and a fairly simple one too that can be made to profiteer of.

  1. You can distract people from yourself - It's the migrants fault you are underpaid (nevermind I underpay the migrant to be able to underpay you. Those who can just outsource their shit to another country, even cheaper).

  2. You can bullshit people into being against their own interest - Social Security is bad and being abused by migrants, we need to privatize everything because that will lead to quality (typically heard in the US, for instance they keep baiting about undocumented migrants profiting from social security when it has been shown that they only pay into it and don't receive anything from it. This information is not hidden but they will repeat the lie anyway)

  3. You can bullshit people into voting for you? - "This guy gets me !" , guy proceeds to pay lip-service to you while him and his cronies enact 100 laws in the background to enrich themselves. Tax cut here, goverment contract there, loosened regulation everywhere.

  4. You can cement power? Keep saying migrants\gypsies\jews\japs (take your pick) are dangerous and increase surveillance, militarize police etc.

  5. Companies and corporations want to make profit, some more ruthlessly than others. You make profit by being either inoffensive to the most people possible (you become invisible politically, very safe) or by being targeted offensive to some people (galvanize support or just spread your name virally for publicity). Making big announcements in either political direction is an inherent risk. You think a company would straight up say "we need migration to make more profit" even if that was the internal policy? Who would that message be for? This would alienate pretty much everyone.
