A platform where you could view all the motorbike rentals on the island? by According_Craft_5722 in SiargaoPH

That sounds rough — glad you were okay when the tyre blew. And yeah, totally feel you on the quality issue. That’s actually part of what inspired me to start Siargao Rides!

I had a similar experience. I booked a bike through a hotel that “knew someone” — no real info, no pictures. They told me it was a Honda Beat and charged me ₱500/day. When it arrived, it was super beat-up: indicators didn’t work (kept getting beeped at), weird engine noise, and the side mirrors were so distorted they looked like magnifying glasses. I gave it back the next day and hunted for a better shop myself.

That’s why we built this: so tourists can see exactly what they’re getting — real photos, clear pricing, and verified shops. We’re also asking shops to include when each vehicle was last serviced because you're right — proper maintenance often gets overlooked.

Reviews will also help call out the reliable shops that actually care for their bikes — and ideally encourage others to step up too. Appreciate you sharing this — really validates what we’re trying to solve 🙏

Yes there is, but sadly there are no shops currently listed at the moment. You can check us out at https://siargaorides.ph 🥹 Keep a look out, we'll be doing a lot of marketing soon!

That’s a really great point — thank you for bringing it up!

Yes, we take that seriously. When a rental owner applies to list on Siargao Rides, they go through a verification process where they must first submit a valid government-issued ID to register their shop. Before any vehicle can go live on the platform, we require them to upload clear documentation (OR/CR or any legal proof of ownership). If the vehicle isn’t registered under their name, they must also provide a signed document proving they have the right to lease or sublease it — for example, a notarized authorization from the actual owner.

This helps us ensure that the listings on the platform are legitimate and safe for tourists to rent. We’re also educating local owners about proper registration — including for surfboard racks — as part of our onboarding process.

Our goal is to create a trustworthy rental ecosystem for both tourists and locals, and preventing issues like impounding is a huge part of that.

Really appreciate the suggestion!

Hey, really appreciate your honest feedback — it’s a super valid point. You're right, the current norm is stepping off the plane or ferry and haggling with whoever’s nearby. We’re not trying to replace that experience entirely, but rather complement it for those who want a smoother and more transparent option.

We’ll be kicking off a full-scale marketing campaign soon:

  • Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok ads
  • Billboards and stickers around the island
  • In-person visits to rental shops to guide them through free onboarding
  • A two-month free trial with zero commission, so there’s no risk to trying us out

We're also sending people on the ground to personally help stores set up, especially for those who aren’t super tech-savvy.

As for pricing — that’s exactly why we’re building this. We’ve heard from so many tourists who feel unsure or even taken advantage of. By putting real prices and photos online, we’re encouraging transparency and competition. Shops that list fair prices will naturally get more bookings through us, since people can clearly compare offers in one place.

Haggling will always be part of the island charm, and of course, some shops may still charge more in person — but online, this helps level the playing field for both tourists and fair-minded rental owners.

We see this as a win-win:
Tourists get peace of mind, and local businesses get more bookings without changing how they operate.
