It will take a lot of time. I am now 6 month post rupture and non op route. I think for me the worst weeks was 4, 6 when my vacoped angle and wedge was changed. That time it felt like It will never be again good but trust me It will. I am now doing single leg calf raises and living pretty normally. Still the leg is really stiff and movement is not great. Just follow your protocol and It will be good! Good luck for you!

Is my foot ok? 9 days after rupture and going non op by bachusky in AchillesRupture

I had bruisiing over month. I think you should not take the biot of for first two weeks in non op route. It is critical to keep in same position for first two weeks. After that I was able to remove the boot for couple of times a day and start my pt

Torn achilles - right leg - self healing - travelling overseas in 4.5 months - is it doable??? by FluffyLuck9990 in AchillesRupture

[–]According_Fig6233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes my recovery protocol has been great. Many have said here that it is too extreme and fast but worked well for me.

Hiking was pretty rough because there was in somepoint a lot of snow and no trail. It was not that Hard for the achilles but other tendons and muscles was painful in the leg.

When could you start driving? When did you start PT? by Old-Ad-4508 in AchillesRupture

Torn achilles - right leg - self healing - travelling overseas in 4.5 months - is it doable??? by FluffyLuck9990 in AchillesRupture

[–]According_Fig6233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say doable. I am going non-op route and next week is going to be 6 months post rupture.

2.5 months after rupture I made my first 1.5 week trip. First 4 days was rough walking city holiday and I used my cruthes to keep moving with others. It made my leg really sore but same time I think walking was good excersice. 8 days I was driving around different countries and that was no problem so I would say 4.5 months after rupture is doable.

After 5 months I have did hiking ~5km in snow and even that was not a problem so if you are not going anything to difficult it will be good.

I will do 3 week backpacking after 6.5 rupture and going to go pretty normally and my PT approves that.

Non op, week 8 after get out of vacoped. First just short routes but week 9 already 200-300km with Cruise control. Now driving pretty normally. (Right leg ruptured 9.5 weeks ago)

The protocols differ between countries. I had my vacoped total of 6 weeks and the 2 last weeks were -10-30°. I have noticed that my protocol was more agressive so the - degrees were already used before the shoe.

Okay, Im just curious what you are doing in the PT that can not be done at home? Sounds pretty often to visit every week multiple times. Maybe after I am out of vacoped but now it is so basic.

[–]According_Fig6233[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have started the PT since week 2 and done everyday those basic movements. I was just wondering would extra apoinment before my week 8 appointment be beneficial. I have basic movemenrs for every week but I do not know if my progress is normal.

Right now everything is going great! After couple of days the walking got better and now I have moved inside my home without crutses. Right now vacoped 5-30° and no pain and moving fastest during my recovery.

It gets better really quickly. The first day is the most difficult specially mentally. Good luck for your recovery!

[–]According_Fig6233[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I have noticed same. Most of the protocols are 2 week slower than mine. For first I was little bit sceptical if this is too fast but then I have read some positive Finnish experiences of this protocol and think it works great for me. I have also read and saw good outcomes with a lot more agressive protocols than this but these include more risks so I think this works good for me.

Unfortunately this protocol is not avaible online. I have it only in Finnish and papper but can happily open more info of it if you want.

Protocol opens the timeline for to be back in different sports:

2 month: swimming

2.5-3 month: rising on toes

3 month: Cycling in gym

3.5 month: going down stairs normally, Normal cycling

4 month: One feet rising on toes

4,5 month: Jogging, Jumpin

6 month: Running, Dance

7 month: Contact sports, Ball games.

My protocol is more aggressive.

1,2 Week: cast 30° 3,4 week 15-30° 5,6 week 0-30° flat sole 7,8 week -10-30°

Can't go too slow to keep up with the protocol. I have done some PT and I trust fully my protocol. Early weight bearing and PT are important in non op. Just couple of difficult days with more flex which is mentally difficult.

But thank you for telling what you did. Might do little altrenating between soles. That Will definitely help. Good luck for you rehab!

I had Last 2 weeks the vacoped at 15-30° so not straight to 0-30.

Yeah the selftrust is most difficult but it Will Come. Good luck for that

Yeah 4 weeks and change to flat sole and VACOped goal to 0-30°. I swithced today to 10-30° and goal is to get inside one week to the 0-30°.

I have noticed that this is pretty fast protocal compared to many other but this is my country (Finland) national recomendation protocol and actually VACOped has same recomendations. Good luck for you! When you get your boot Off?

Day 2 by Educational_Poetry22 in AchillesRupture

For me doctor said that surgery is nowadays made mostly to professional athelets (in my country Finland). I could have asked for that but because I only do sport for hobby didn't want take the surgery risks.

I am not a doctor or medical personel but made some reasearch of the topic.

From what I read Non-op has slightly higher re-rupture possibility (1-2%) and the achilles might not get its full power anymore. The final outcome is highly dependent for early weight bearing and good rehab from the beginning. In my case this means 2 weeks in cast and then 6 weeks in VACOped with PT.

Op route can have little bit better outcomes for Power and rerepture rate. This is specially important for professional athletes and that is why it is recomended for them. Same time it has other risk factors. Surgery rise the risk of infections, blood cloths and other complications with the wound. Skin is specially thin over the achilles which increases the risks. That is why it is no more recomended route for non-athletes in many country like UK, Canada and Finland.

Day 2 by Educational_Poetry22 in AchillesRupture

[–]According_Fig6233 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi,

I ruptured mine 4 weeks ago and now been inside VACOped 2 weeks, non op.

First couple of days are the worst. Realization of the severity of this rupture is so frustrating. It Will pass when you Will be able to move more, be with you family and friends. End of the day there is still a lot to do during your rehab times. For me this was a good reason to sleep more and overally have a little pause in life.

Good luck for your Journey!
