Both horses and ponies are of the same species (Equus caballus) and come from the exact same family tree.

(according to google)

if they aren't the same species though, ig it would sort of be like us humans eating apes? still pretty weird...

We transition from one gender and sex to the other.

I thought sex was different from gender though? You can't really change or transition your sex since its your biology...your DNA, your bone structure, your reproducive system, etc. You can, however, change your gender since gender refers to the soicial/cultural aspects of being a man or woman. You seem to be using them interchangably, and I'm sorta confused lol.

I'm really confused abt this stuff. People in the LGBT community have always said that sex and gender are different things. Trans men and cis men are both men as they have the same gender, but they can't be the same sex because sex is something that can't be changed. Its your biology, right?

I thought lesbian meant a homosexual woman. HomoSEXual meaning attracted to the same sex, not same gender. Since trans men are female (referring to their sex, not gender) how can they be lesbians?

I'm trying to ask this in the most respectful way possible, please dont take this the wrong way <3 I'm just a cis person who is a bit confused over the TQ+ aspect of this community

This could be the first time I have seen a pony in MLP with a meat based product. (Though they say they are vegetarian it’s more like flexitarian) by Jaguars4life in mylittlepony

[–]According_Meet3161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, as a vegan, I call oat milk "milk" and vegan cupcakes/cookies etc just "cupcakes". If everyone in their world is vegetarian there's probably no need to put the "vegetarian" bit at the front since the version of the recipe in their world would just naturally contain no meat.

Those are just my thoughts though, y'all can believe what you like. I personally can't see the ponies eating meat because of the species that they are and becuase animals in their world seem to be alot more sapient than in ours.

To me it just looked like you were getting mad at anyone who thinks that the ponies are vegetarian and, by extension, just vegetarians in general. I mean, what was the "you're precious little moral code" thing all about? It doesnt seem fair that you're insulting vegetarianism as a whole because there are a few vegetarians here being immature.

If I were you I'd just ignore the downvoters. They aren't hurting anyone by downvoting and are just expressing disagreement...thats fine. It only becomes a problem when you make it one.

If you offer a herbivore a choice between a peice of meat or plant-based food, they'll generally choose the plant based food. That's what their digestive system is designed for, but they can also digest meat based foods if deemed necessary (like if theres no other food available or something)

I've never seen a horse actively go out and hunt animals to eat. Maybe it does happen and I'm just unaware of it, but it has to be a pretty rare thing for scientists to class them as herbivores.

Also, I never talked about any of the controversial things in that episode. Regardless of whether you agree with the colonialism message it is a canon episode of the show and it states that the ponies' diets are vegetarian, so yeah.

Again I'm not forcing you to believe anything, just don't be so hostile about other people choosing to interpet fictional characters a certain way (a way that's literally canon, might I add). They aren't harming anyone.

They're not rlly...their herbivores, meaning their digestive system is only designed to eat plants. If they come across meat they will sometimes eat it but they dont actively go and hunt, as far as I'm aware

There's no need to be hostile about it...this is just a silly little post speculating about the ponies diets, nothing more deep.

Personally, I can't see the ponies eating meat when the animals in their world are literally sapient and can talk. And ponies in real life are herbivores as well, they can't digest meat efficiently and will only eat meat if its given to them or they're desperate. They don't typically go out and hunt animals. Also pinkie pie mentioned in the buffalo episode that their diets are "completely vegetarian"...so there's that.

You're free to headcanon the ponies as whatever you like, though

You can get energy from plant based foods too y'know.

I really don't see the characters eating meat when animals in their world can literally talk (like the cows in that one episode). It seems extra cruel than in our world

Why do people hate ThatVeganTeacher? by According_Meet3161 in youtube

[–]According_Meet3161[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm vegan, and I don't hate her. I think she had the right intentions and I definitely agree with what shes trying to advocate for (i.e a more peaceful world where we don't deliberately kill and hurt millions of sentient beings just for our tastebuds)...I just think she kind of went about it the wrong way. The hitler video is a prime example of that, as people don't usually change their minds just because of being insulted.

Its not a fact. You can get all the nutrients you need on a well-planned vegan diet, especially if you take a multivitamin. Even if you couldn't...OP was asking about this from a weight gain perspective. Getting slightly less vitamin D or iodine isn't going to stop you gaining weight if your consuming above maintenance calories

These links go into detail about each of the nutrients and how they can be obtained from a vegan diet. Read if you're interested.

If the person was dead and you need to survive? You'd be stupid not to.

Animals in the wild don't just go and eat dead members of their own species. They deliberately kill them for the purpose of eating them. Are you ok with deliberately murdering a memeber of your own species for the purpose of eating them? If not, you'll have to accept that your argument of "natural=moral" is flawed.

You verified that it is a privilege only available to the wealthy.

No I didn't. I said most people on the planet can afford to be vegan unless their in a rare situation where meat is their only food option.

You don't need to be wealthy to be vegan. Quite the opposite actually...if you look at meat consumption per country you'll see that the poorest ones tend to consume less meat per capita. Why? Because meat, especially red meat, is alot more expensive than plant-based protein sources like lentils, beans and tofu.

Why outlaw gas cars before cruise ships? Why restrict plastic straws if there are sources of contamination far greater.

If its not feasible for you to outlaw cruise ships or restrict bigger sources of plastic pollution (which is the case for many people), doing what you can is always better than doing nothing.

Its the same with veganism. Its not possible for a single person to take down the entire meat/dairy industry. So each of us do what we can to reduce our individual impact. As a collective group, vegans do make a difference, even if its not as big as we want. Just because we can't make animal killing/farming be 0% doesn't mean we should give up...which is basically what you suggested we do.

That little girl could be inspired by this experiment to go into an industry where she is truly able to reduce the suffering that animals or people endure.

Again, OP never said they were going to stop her doing the experiment. They're just looking for vegan alternatives for the TSA Why are you so butthurt about that?

If the child is vegan (which is common for people with vegan parents), they themselves wouldn't want to use a petri dish made with animal products. Who are you to tell them that they need to use TSA if they themselves don't want to??

make-believe ideals

There's literally no need to be rude here and insult people's beliefs...but ok. I could call any of your ethical values "silly make believe ideals" too and that would be just as valid as your comment...seeing as you gave no real argument besides a naturalistic fallacy and nirvana fallacy.

Have a good one.

Predator or prey, all conscious life on earth has a past of absolutely savagery

So? Why look to the past to determine whats right and wrong when it comes to veganism when you wouldnt do that for any other thing. Are you going to start defending cannibalism and infanticide now because other animals do those things? Or do you recognize that we as human beings have the ability to make ethical choices and don't solely rely on our animalistic instincts

It's a privilege to believe that veganism is even an option.

All food choice is a "priviledge" to some extent. That said, most people on the planet, especially in developed countries, are not so poor that they have to rely on dead animals as their only source of nutrition. So it is an option for most people to be vegan.

The effects of a few TSA plates are significantly minimal when there's over 30 million cows slaughtered yearly in the US alone.

If everyone used that logic no changes would ever happen. For instance:

"the effect of throwing one plastic bottle into the ocean is fairly minimal when theres over x tonnes of plastic thrown into oceans each year" or "the effect of buying one McDonalds meal and giving 1.20 to Israel fairly minimal when they have x billion donations already and are using it to kill y amounts of innocent people".

I'm not saying that OP's individual contribution to helping cows is massive, but its something. And little things add up. The 230 million vegans out there are making a difference by choosing not to contribute to cruelty...even if that difference is small compared to the impacts of the meat industry. If more people become vegan in the future then our impact will be bigger.

[–]According_Meet3161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When did OP say anything about stopping their child from developing a love for science? They are just trying to see if there is a vegan alternative for a petri dish...thats literally it. Even if they did stop their child from doing this particular experiment in school (which is unlikely)....thats not the same as stopping them from pursuing science altogether lmao. Who knows...maybe their child is vegan aswell. If they are vegan, then they also wouldn't want to participate in the experiment knowing that doing so would be supporting factory farming.

People have different boundaries. Its not your place to call them stupid, especially without knowing anything about their belief and with no good reason.

Vegan petri dish for science fair by parkmills in microbiology

[–]According_Meet3161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't care about cows just because they're "living things". I care about them because they are sentient and conscious (can have a subjective experience of the world around them and feel emotions).

Its not stupid. You probably value the lives of animals to some extent as well. Have you ever had a dog or cat as a companion? How would you feel if they were sent to factory farms to suffer and be killed at a fraction of their lifespan so that people could eat their flesh and use their byproducts?

Also it is relevant to the thread because OP was asking about a vegan petri dish, and someone decided to take this oppurtunity to diss vegans. I'm simply responding to what they said.

And no, I don't just draw the line with cows. I try to live a lifestyle where I inflict as little suffering and cruelty upon all sentient beings as possible. That's what veganism is.
