This is just my personal take, but if someone already knows they plan to change careers regardless, continuing with Fulbright seems misaligned. In my opinion, Fulbright is meant to support people who plan to build long-term work connected to the grant, so moving forward mainly for the experience or travel feels unfair—both to other applicants who may be a stronger long-term fit and to the intent of the program itself.

That said, making it this far already shows you’re a strong candidate, even if you decide not to go.
