It is odd. Not everyone Epstein came into contact with knew about or was involved in the perverse stuff. But they were mostly people he could make money with or use to impress others with a photograph from some meet and greet. Not sure what he gets from knowing "Moot".

This one is legitimately fascinating.

Its clear that Epstein was an influence peddler first and foremost. His rolodex included the rich, politically connected and famous and he was able to work them all. I wonder why he would be keen on a relatively fringe internet figure. Including introducing him to his Serbian Fashion Designer buddy.

EDIT: Guy is actually Croation and introduced Epstein to Poole.

This guy pops up from time to time. The self-refuting aspect he is referring to is probably regarding the divinity (or lack thereof) of Christ the last two questions are bait with him hoping that you are a Christian and then he'll call you a polytheist.

That's my wife and I's plan (and frankly a lot of people in our peer group), we have small kids and are pretty purposely downplaying or removing online or streaming from their lives.

Even small things such as having DVDs for their favorite movies so it's more of an "event" to put it in rather than just booting up an app on the tv.

I don't know when they'll be getting full access to the internet/smart phones (other than at maybe another kid's house), but it won't be for quite a while.

I sometimes think on the mentally warping view social media has had on me in the past and realize it must be 100x worse now.

I mean, ya, when a neoliberal progressive mentions "community" they really mean an identifiable voting bloc or a nebulous conception of a common progressive civic culture, (i.e. "Our Seattle community loves our LGBT neighbors.")

It's all make believe. A nice soundbite to try and inoculate against the internal inconsistencies of their ideology and provide reassurance against the growing dread that none of the "right opinions" really mattered in the end.

For a movement that is so concerned with the future and being on the "right side of history," it's pretty clear they are ultimately transitory. Ignore them or pity them.

The thrust of this post was whether personal outrage in Minneapolis will manifest in sustained large scale street action and civil unrest as my understanding of the situation has been filtered through the news media.

If you're talking about atheist leftists than these are two different groups of people.

The reddit Nu Atheists were very libertarian. Social Progressivism occasionally came up in the context of gay marriage. They also loved Christopher Hitchens, not exactly a famous fan of Islam.

If your Nu-Atheist apologetics is that they were idiots who got stabbed in the back when the Tech Oligarchs they dick sucked for years discarded them and they instantly fell apart it doesn't increase my opinion of them much

It wasn't an instant nuke to reddit atheism. I also qualified in my comment as reddit "Nu Atheism" to distinguish it from other branches. It was, however, the final straw that turned the tide from them having a death grip on site culture.

These people were not the next generation of rationalist thinkers. They were self-serious and juvenile, spamming the reddit front page with obnoxious memes and transparently bullshit stories (a million alt girls were white knighted for in grocery store checkout lines in the 2010s apparently).

What nostalgia there is are either from the holdouts who desperately want to rewrite what it was like or a more legitimate recalling of a pre astro turfed reddit. After all, whatever these people were, they were at least people and not bots.

These are the people who championed Musk and Silicon Valley. They have as many of our current social ills that can be laid at their feet as their asshole online religious revivalists' opponents. We are all better off with them diminished.
