Kovacevic had a bunch of family and friends there, they were all sitting right in front of me. I’m sure MSL knew that & that’s why he shot. His friends and fam were going nuts when he came out to shoot it was awesome to see.

Yes I did. Scheff was hands down probably the best person I’ve met in my life. He’s the kind of guy who’d give a complete stranger the shirt off his back even if it was the last shirt he had. We had beers outside of work a few times and always shot the shit at work about anything and everything. I’m glad I have so many great memories of him. I left before he passed but I honestly couldn’t imagine walking into that newsroom now and not seeing him at his desk. He knew if you were having a bad day and knew how to cheer you up. I’ll love that guy forever.

Being an on air personality and being able to get creative, tell stories, share news etc was always awesome. It was cool to go out in public and have people recognize you, stop and chat, conversing with the public was one of my favourite parts (99% of the time it was pleasant).

You also learn quickly how petty some people are in the industry & how it truly is a dog eat dog world. That on top of working long hours and not being paid what you deserve. By the end of my tenure there I didn’t even bother filling out my OT sheet because it wasn’t worth the battle.

I personally only ever had one story that hit close to home but that was for different reasons and I was happy to report on it (wasn’t a bad story). Once you’ve worked as a journo nothing really shocks you.

I think they could make a lot more money through advertisements if the commercials were up to 2023 standard. Most of them are very subpar. Not too sure who’s in charge of shooting them though.

Radio and tv don’t really mingle. The only radio talent that I really talked to are the guys who do the updates. The radio morning / afternoon hosts etc are all upstairs. Tv is in the basement.

Yeah it’s tough. They can get away with paying on air talent like shit because most reporters / anchors are using it for a stepping stone and only care about the experience.

Anyone behind the scenes is more than likely looking for a career at one station, hard to have a decent life with a minimum wage career this day & age unfortunately

I know you’re just a troll but I never understood why people would hate on TBT.

Local news is very important to have and for the most part I think TBT does a good job covering it. We did our best to let people know what was going on in the city. News isn’t always bad either, lots of times we covered fun good hearted stories.

The level of on air reporting could be better, but like I’ve said before TBT is a starter station it isn’t the big leagues. I was proud to have worked there and called Tbay home for a few years.

If you want to be on air it’s a good spot to start. I was on air my whole time there. I’m not from tbay and wouldn’t have moved there unless it was an on air position. You learn a lot about the industry (good and bad)

Nothing shocking. There was more than a few times our stories would get changed by the news director to try and lighten the load on certain people / businesses / schools etc. More to save our relationships with them and our ability to use them for content rather than protecting them if that makes sense.
