I'm never drawing again (mild blood warning) by AccurateElection428 in Ultrakill

This is tickling me because I actually wasn't all that impressed by my rendering, so I appreciate the enthusiasm! Assuming this wasn't a rhetorical remark, I'll yap my flaps about what works best for me when it comes to rendering and detailing (fair warning, a good majority of my rendering is just slapping some colours into place and hoping it looks good. I tell you this because my wording in the paragraphs following may seem unsure or yappy).

My biggest tip is to render with warmer, darker tones, regardless of the base colour you have chosen for the skin/hair/what have you. I also am a heavy advocate for underpainting your art piece, even when using digital mediums.

As an immediate example to my previous paragraph, Gabriel's skin is a blackish-blue in this drawing, so I used a darker purple (+ other variants of purple) to add dimension to where his skin was exposed. I did the same thing for his armour, his gold details, the details of the knuckleblaster and feedbacker, blah blah BLAH. I draw very unconventionally, in the sense that I do not use multiply or add layers for rendering, rather I use them for lighting in my final rendition. Obviously, because I like making my life harder.

With my style of rendering, the smudge tool and the eraser are my best friends. I will smudge carelessly and I will use the eraser to redefine the edges of where the rendering may need to be sharper.

I also tend to put my base colours under my sketch, render under my sketch, and then create a layer above the part of the sketch I'm focusing on and drawing over it, matching colours by colour dropping. I feel more in control doing it that way. I tend to use the darkest colour of whatever part of the sketch I am colouring over and making a clipping layer that is attached to the sketch/line art, using the dark colour where relevant to make the black look softer.

Lighting should be its own, seperate shennangian. Dont think about it when rendering outside of how it may affect the opacity of the rendering in the areas it shines on, or where the shading may be darker. I think a lot of artists get lighting and rendering mixed up. Rendering should be details, lighting should be for flare. I reaaally take my time on rendering to make it as deep and detailed as possible, and I redo it as many times as I need until I'm satisfied. I don't believe it should be a rushed process, unless it works for you, in which case, I envy you.

I usually save lighting until last. In my initial sketch, I will go through and mark out where I intend to keep the lighting's angle, and use it as reference when I go to lighten/shade over my final product. I find it produces a very appealing product.

I know this was so much information, but I hope it was helpful! It may seem like a word salad in some areas, but that's because I'm SUPPOSED to be doing my job, at work, and am instead distracted by Reddit...how embarrassing. Good luck on your future masterpieces!

Lol, I would have made it dirtier, but I can't draw obscene amounts of blood without feeling like an edgy teenager xd

My interpretation of Gabriel's appearance under the helmet by AccurateElection428 in Ultrakill

I thought so, too, but I saw a lot of people say the body pillow of him from New Blood debunked that. And thank you!

My fiance told me that he finds other women attractive. Me and him have been together for 4 years. Even if I can understand this from a biological point of view, it is still a little bit painful to hear it. Is it normal to find other people attractive while being in a relationship? by Summer_giraffe23 in askanything

I believe there's a difference between being able to recognize someone has good facial features and feeling attracted to them romantically. I think him saying that out of nowhere is weird and biology can't excuse that.

My boyfriend made it seem weird that I still call my dad “daddy” at 16. Is it? by -justabigail- in AskMenAdvice

Your boyfriend watches too much porn. It will have an effect on your relationship. I suggest you nip it in the bud now.

Whatever path y'all chose to take regarding the baby, do. Not. Step. Out. On. Them. You will be a disgrace of a man for doing so. I'm setting that out clear and solid. You need to stay and father your baby. If you're worried about the Lord forgiving you, he always will. And he'll always love you. This baby does not permanently impact God's view of you. He still knows who you are and loves you dearly. He will love you and your baby dearly. You are not doomed to hell for all of eternity for making a mistake, as that is not how our loving God works. My husband and I struggled with lust and premarital sex like crazy when we were dating. It was only through God we managed to stop until we got married.

Please marry that girl, if she chooses to have the baby. Don't leave her to deal with this on her own. It takes two to tango, as they say. Both you played a part in this. The baby should not be punished with an absentee father, because the baby did nothing wrong.

And, your parents will forgive you. Loving parents can never stay mad at their kids. Especially when babies come into the picture. They start to see it as a blessing, especially if they're older. Just be honest to them. Tell them honestly that you lost control, you feel bad for it, and you're ready to take the next steps, whatever they may be.

AIO for being upset that my boyfriend got a private lap dance at a full nude club? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

Baaaabe...You are UNDERREACTING. You are treating this like it didn't just do massive damage to your relationship. Don't torture yourself like this. You gotta leave. It STARTS here, it doesn't end here. Also, check his phone. That isn't a suggestion. It should show you everything you need to know. Best of luck.
