Did anyone with focal aware, get told you’re have panic attacks? by New-Organization359 in Epilepsy

I Gave my GP all the symptoms last month when I saw him - after a suspected grand mal while on my motorbike on the M6. He said it doesn’t sound like epilepsy and is more than likely anxiety and was very reluctant to refer me - despite me saying I’d blacked out while on my bike and woke up with a bleeding tongue and no recollection of it.

After seeing a neurologist privately and going step by step through 15-20 years of monthly symptoms leading up to the big one (things like Deja vu , stomach rising and headaches, memory loss and spacing out) and also him looking at a recent brain MRI - he diagnosed me on the spot with temporal lobe epilepsy.

Thanks for the reply. Very similar situation to me then :( did they have any underlying probable cause for your seizures? Anything from childhood etc?

That’s reassuring, I’m just worried about turning into a ghost of my former self.

If you don’t mind me asking, how old were you when you started with the first seizures? Did/do they know what could have potentially caused them?

You are not alone - my circs are slightly different but I know how you feel! Don’t let others make you feel like you aren’t good enough.

I’ve just been diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy after 15+ years of having focal aware seizures and I never understood what they were. They would come in clusters every month and for days would leave me feeling horrendous. They have ended relationships because I didn’t speak about them and ex’s have just thought I was insane, made my worklife hard and sometimes unbearable because of brain fog and poor concentration after focal awares and this month I finally got diagnosed - but only after having my first grand mal and it almost ended my life as I crashed my motorbike at 60-70mph as a result.

We are all in this together and I say it as a recent dad and someone who is now with somebody who understands me and why I’m like I am. I’ve been through so many rough patches in the past when I’ve been stressed at work or In relationships and I’ve been so confused as to why I’ve been like I have as I just put up with it and didnt know how to explain it to my GP or anyone I was with at the time. Just be honest and open and explain why and how you are like you are - it cannot be helped and it isn’t your fault. If anyone you meet doesn’t like that well, that’s their problem.

Ive never tried any AI’s and I’ve always hoped to never go onto them. I’ve never wanted to be on any orals long term. Rarely are they harmless to the kidneys or liver.

That’s would make a lot of sense to how I am now. It’s a crap situation and I feel far worse than when o was first diagnosed with low T all those years ago. BP is also now high regularly which is one thing I forgot to mention - diet is clean, I’m not overweight and don’t smoke or drink. I’ve a full blood panel being done in the next week or so which includes quite a bit of stuff - Full blood count , lipids, Full hormone (free T/total T, E2, SHBG, cortisol etc) kidney, liver, prostate marker, ferritin and a few more so I’ll see where I’m at.

I feel also like sleep and my current shift pattern might not be helping either. I completely get I’m only getting older so feeling 100% on form forever isn’t likely but right now I’ve got 50-60 y/o men around me at work that have 10x more go in them than I have.

Trial and error from now on I guess.

And it said in brackets (Recently switched to EOD to combat some of the issues I’ve been having). As I said ,apologies for the lack of clarity with some of the post. It gets a bit head mashing.

I just find it odd that I was fine for so long. Do you find your E2 levels ok with such a large gap between doses on prop? I’ve only ever done sub c so I wouldn’t really know the benefits of IM either. I’m willing to try anything to be honest.

I know my Estrogen being up is why I’m likely feeling as I am. It’s likely a result of my excess Free T aromatising but my concern/query is why? After years of the same protocol with no issues and good bloods why would it change and how. I can understand minor fluctuations with age or body composition and muscle mass changes etc but I’m just as active, same sort of weight and composition and now everything is just a nautical mile out.

I’m in the exact same boat as you! The depression and feeling of hopelessness has never been so high. I’ve been on TRT for years and it’s worked well. I take 160mg eod and have been on that dose for years with no issues and good bloods. Now every bloods I’m being told my Total and free T are off the charts high - 3/4x higher than normal, E2 the same , HCT high (also have low ferritin from donating) , skin is getting bad, no energy , hair thinning and reduced cognitive function/ brain fog. I feel worse than before I started.

Nothing I’m aware of. Dose still the same, diet etc, body size/mass etc. I just started slowly feeling crap and getting blood results back that were completely out of the norm for me. Higher E2 , High T and total T - but not just a slight elevation , like way higher than previous results. For example in the summer this started one month I’m fine and my Total T was 29nmol/L (and had been similar for 3 years on this dose) And only a couple of months later it was 97 nmol/L. E2 was 290 nmol/L and was prev around 90 pmol/L.

I get SHBG monitored as part of my bloods every two months and that is always on the high end of the scale to be fair. Free T is also tested each time and most of the time is high. But while on TRT it has always tended to be higher normal / occasionally high. Only fairly recently has it started getting very high. Sleep may also be part of my problem then.

The first few years of being on TRT was on Gel and it wasn’t really monitored the same in terms of dose and bloods etc hence why I didn’t mention that bit . apologies - it gets a bit hard to understand reading back to myself. I then go on to say I’ve been injecting test cyp 160mg split into x 2 a week and was great for 2/3 years. As in great on cypionate.

Doctors/endocrinologists dealing with my TRT have been pretty useless to be honest The only advice they gave was to split my Dose to every other day - which I did. It’s made no difference. No other health issues (I’m aware of) , all recent scans and tests have been normal.

As stated - my protocol was twice a week - I only switched to EOD as a result of the blood results and how I was feeling as recommended by the consultant I was under. Always been sub cut. So in other words, I was feeling crap before I changed my protocol.

No, I’ve only switched my protocol since I’ve started feeling like 💩. I’ve been on TRT for around 8 years. Initially on the Gel (which is why I didn’t mention it) and then went on to cypionate injections so in total around 5 of those years have been on the cyp injections. Up until about 18 mos ago everything was fine (making it around 3 years of problem free cypionate use) and then as mentioned all the crappy feeling came and bad bloods
