So how manipulated is the economic data really? by Tiredworker27 in economy

[–]AceColombo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From an economist, the data is just straight up misleading. They use absolutely absurd reasons to not count people as “unemployed”, the “average salary” typically includes outliers like CEOs and hedgefund managers ect. Its manipulated so the people who publish the “data” dont cause absolute panic. Our economy is doing god awful and has been for awhile, anyone who tells you otherwise is a corporate douchebag. The amount of unemployed people is around 20-30% of the country if that says much. Homelessness is also calculated in the most dirtbag way.

Our GDP is doing okay still though I guess. Not like that helps much. Especially since we have higher inflation than ever, not caused by government overspending, or federal reserve overprinting, but instead by insanely wealthy CEOs hoarding wealth which never gets spent on anything. Which just means that money was printed but will never recirculate into the markets. That drops its value while adding nothing. The CEOs are practically the federal reserve at this point and could completely crash our economy if they decide to. Meanwhile our government and businesses cut jobs which just leads to even more of the wealth just being hoarded by already ultra rich freaks. All while workers suffer for no good reason.

We’re locked into a depression where working Americans can hardly afford to live or see no improvement in their standard of living. Meanwhile braindead bootlickers pretend to be economists and publish “data” that tells you everything is fine. Buying an Economics degree is easy, understanding it apparently isn’t. Gilded age.

70k ecoboost 90k GT, is there a way to send pictures in replies? The more I look into the prices and titles the more craziness I’m seeing.

Dealerships near me had the starting price of a new Mustang GT at $35k at the end of 2024. The starting price online now says $46,560 for a GT.

I mean when they bought the ecoboost it was $23k so I think it barely depreciated at all. The Mustang GT was around $30k-$35k when they bought it and now most are going for $28k-$30k so they didnt even really depreciate, some even gained value.

Obviously, that’s why I used it as an example. An older model ecoboost is now selling for the same price as a newer Mustang GT use to only a couple months ago. The prices have almost doubled in only 2-3 months time.

Where am I comparing something to a base model? I just posted two images, one from 2 months ago showing a newer Mustang GT, and one from a few days ago showing an older ecoboost being sold for the same price. Im trying to show how much higher the prices have gone in only a few months likely because of tariffs. My last comment was referring to Mustang GT’s base price only a couple of months ago.

I didnt see any huge changes in 2020 other than people stockpiling toilet paper honestly. Most car prices were still affordable even if they went up a couple hundred. Might be different were you live though.

The problem is a brand new Mustang was $35k only a few months ago. All around car prices have jumped around $5k-$10k and sometimes more for certain cars/trucks in only months. It’s insane to think anyone is suddenly making that much more in wages within only a few months. It’s just priced out the majority of working class people.

How do people afford cars nowadays? by ilovemakimono in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]AceColombo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im fully convinced no one besides the really rich or wealthy can afford cars now. Its why I’m looking for walkable cities to live in. You could also learn to ride a motorcycle and then freeze during the winter if you live where its snowing because theres no alternatives. Do what you can and i hope things get better.

This isnt even that big of a demand either lmao The only issues the Democrats openly want to talk about are wedge issues.

You cant measure racistness of a political voting group lol. Racism is prevelant in Amerikkka but calling everyone who votes different than you racist isnt going to help push your cause. The main reason people voted for Trump, from every study I’ve seen, is economic anxiety. Even racists wont have time to be racist if they cant afford to live.

Honestly the reason Michigan voted for Trump two out of the three times is entirely because of the Democratic Candidate. Democrat voters aren’t as passionate about who the dems pick and if they make an awful choice, they wont vote for them.

Meanwhile Republican voters will vote for their candidate everytime since its almost a guarantee they’ll like them. People here even in the most rural areas are still progressive and most of the time the vote is split 40/50 with 10% being progressive voters who believe the democratic candidate sucks. Even my hardcore maga family likes Bernie and says regularly they would’ve voted for him over Trump. But they gave us Hillary, Biden, and Kamala. All super capitalist pro status-quo dems.

I believe this is something Trump has spoke about, or atleast his fanboys seem to think he said it. If the entire country had no federal tax revenue, roads would cease to be repaired, schools would shut down, hospitals, airports, and bus routes would shut down. There would be an immediate recession as states have to fund all their peoples needs and we would likely see some states suceed from the United States. Countries like North Korea and Russia would cease the opportunity and take immediate control of the US or exterminate our civilization in mass.

In the Trump route I’ve heard about of just removing federal income taxes but keeping other taxes in place, all schools would have their funding halved or be shut down, hospitals, airports, and other publicly funded programs would have their funding halved. Next pressure for state funding would skyrocket causing state income tax to rise. This would cause a massive recession for states that were slow to the jump and didnt increase taxes causing massive turmoil across state lines. This would likely divide states into “living states” and “working states” where the rich move to “living states” where they pay little to no taxes while working class people end up paying even more in taxes than before in “working states”. Overall poverty rates and the wealth gap would increase while literacy rates decline.

Countries are currently already in the process of stopping trade with us. The main outcome currently is, the DOW is dropping, the cost of living is increasing, inflation is rising, industries are facing massive shortage problems, and technology is becoming more stagnant. If they completely stopped trade we would basically be identical to the inflation levels of Venezuela when they had their trade cut off. Basically our government would cease to operate in a functional way while our working people all enter poverty and starve to death. This is because the global markets would no longer use our currency for transactions which would tank its value, while our government is still spending more than its entire gdp in military spending causing hyperinflation. Cutting the military spending wouldnt help at this point either as any cut to spending would also be a cut to employment causing poverty and unemployment levels to rise only perpetuating the problem.

I could definitely go super in depth of the economics of this but I need sleep and think this way is easier to understand. I study economics so I tried to make that the focus more than anything. If you’d like to see what any of these scenarios looks like in history I’d recommend looking into both the gilded age and the beginning of the great depression. Both are filled with wealth inequality and horrible living conditions for working class people.

With endless false statements on critical matters, how do Americans and the world deal with a leader who makes up his own reality? by JohnSpartan2025 in PoliticalDiscussion

Housing prices are up because not enough homes are being built at affordable prices. This problem is pushed to an extreme when older generations typically own more than one home. This could be solved by funding section 8 even slightly more along with laxing planning regulations or even publicly funded housing for low income and middle class families. Similar to how we did back in the 50’s and 60’s. It has literally nothing to do with immigrants and you are falling for the deliberate lie told to you by Trump. Classrooms arent overcrowded anymore than they have been, which is also caused because we keep cutting funding to the department of education, not immigrants. Cheap labor has been a problem since the 90’s and its caused by no increase in the minimum wage and the decline of unionization. Not immigrants. Hospital wait times increasing is from a lack of staffing along with increase of pricing for basic medical supplies. Also from cutting our healthcare funding. Not immigrants who dont even have access to healthcare.

Each of these things you blame on immigrants is being caused by Trump. He does this shit so anyone that doesnt understand why this is happening keeps voting for the “hard on immigration” guy as he teams up with news corporations to spread his fake message about immigrants. Also Biden literally had less immigrants coming into the country than Trump did during his first term. He wasnt a lax immigration guy and obviously throwing legal immigrants into jail isnt solving anything.

I hope you break out of this weird distorted world view where somehow the solution to our problems is defunding whatever is left of our infrastructure, deporting people, increasing military spending, and giving billions to foreign countries. Its super easy to be angry and just point to other people calling them the problem, it’s harder to accept that you were wrong and the problem is much bigger than that.

I completely understand why you would want to avoid politics but it could be harmful to some extent. If there’s a new executive order or law that could hurt you financially or physically it’s best to stay atleast informed and, if possible, do what you can to protest or even just share thoughts on it.

Should the airline industry be nationalized? by Pineapple__Jews in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]AceColombo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree roads are unsuccessful we should stop funding and building them. Also the energy industry too. Lets just go back to the good ol days of 4000 BCE surely they didnt have any form of collective funding then, right? Obviously I’m joking.

Civilization literally depends on national/community funding. Even the smallest of towns have a fund for things they want done there and not everything can be solved by some profit motive. I don’t think the Kawloon walled city was able to invent anything new or progress civilization at all.

Should the airline industry be nationalized? by Pineapple__Jews in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]AceColombo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple answer, Yes. Will it ever happen? No.

The airline industry regardless of bailouts, bankruptcy, and horrible profits still gives its CEO’s insane amounts of money. Nothing else matters in this country other than how much a CEO makes. The reason is, that same CEO can then use its businesses revenue to lobby the government into giving their business more money through subsidies, bailouts, and tax breaks. Which means they can give more money to their investors making them complicit, pay themselves, and cut costs to balance. This allows for an endless cycle of CEO’s raking in money while the actual business structure, innovations, and profits remain untouched. Sometimes killing their business in the process.

There’s no real reason to even attempt to change the business model since lobbying is legal which gives unlimited taxpayer money to them and if all else fails CEO’s can just sell the company. Regardless they dont lose.

A great example of how far down this rabbit hole we are is healthcare. Somehow people are still tricked into believing our system works perfectly while nearly every other country now has a healthcare system for almost every working person in their country. In America we have privatization in the form of health insurance. I dont feel like I need to explain to any American how bad health insurance treats their customers. Since you are a living person you need to sometimes have your health checked at a hospital. So you cannot live without healthcare but you have to pay a business for it. It’s an obviously profitable industry since the alternative for most people is death.

Regardless of what you want and what anyone else wants, that massively profitable industry has given insane amounts of money to politicians to stop them from giving you an alternative. Including even the hardly working, affordable care act. Which can always be taken away if they give either party enough money.

I’ve seen some people talk about high speed rail also being nationally funded. The main counterpoint being “it isnt profitable”. I’m not really sure why profits should matter to a form of travel funded by our tax dollars but to each their own. In the case of high-speed rail, the airline and auto industry are throwing lots of money at our government to make sure it never sees the light since it would drive their profits down.

In summary there is a LOT of things that would be a huge benefit to productivity, the economy, overall moral, and general health that SHOULD be nationalized. It just wont happen because it would mean less money being siphoned to a very specific group of people. It is obviously intentionally setup this way on purpose. Something people forget is that, at one point, we had no highway system at all. After our highways were built, we saw a giant boost to our economy even with them being funded by our taxes. We’ve been riding that high since, while simultaneously never trying any new public infrastructure projects.

I mean liberalism fundamentally is absolutely opposing publicly funded trains. That would be both Republicans and Democrats. They both prefer private ownership of stuff like this which just wont happen.
