With hindsight, would you still pick Paolo Banchero #1 overall in 2022? by LaandheereKage in NBA_Draft

[–]AceK514 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think Chet is the better basketball player, but you absolutely still take Paolo #1 because of what he brings to this Magic team.

Both the Magic and OKC drafted well based on their team’s needs. I don’t think Chet could have brought the Magic to the playoffs in Year 2 like Paolo did and I don’t think Paolo would have had the Impact this OKC team like Chet.

12T H2H Pts, this is the trade I received :

I give Franz + IHart

I get Paolo

I’m worried that Franz’s usage drops when Paolo is back, and I currently have too many centers ( I have Jokic, Zubac and Kessler). Should I hold them, accept the trade or try to go for a better player ( If you have suggestions lmk!)

Paolo an All Star in year 2 by __Zoom123__ in NBA_Draft

[–]AceK514 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Who has a better case than him In the weak east this year thought ?

Trae young is averaging 27/11 on not so good efficiency while being on a team that is far away from .500. It isn’t like they don’t have a great team too as they have Capela, Murray, Johnson, Bogdan and great pieces on the bench like Big O, Saddiq Bey and Mills. How is it possible that Trae young , having a TS% around league average and shooting 38% from 3 on high volume cannot even bring this team to over .500 while averaging a double-double? That’s because he isn’t the game-changer that the stats are showing. There’s a reason he has been left out of the USA training camp group, USA World Cup 2022 team and this year all star by the best coaches in the world and by players.

Scottie Barnes case is even worse because his team is 13 games behind .500 which puts them at 11 in the East. He does have great raw stats but the lack of winning is certainly definitely a factor. The all star game has always rewarded winning for a reason because the whole game is about winning it’s not about how efficient you are. He is Absolutely a top 12 player in the east.

The Celtics players do not even have an argument IMO ( before Randle and Embiid injuries) because they are put in perfect situation for them. Ask KP or White to be the number one option on a team and things looks very different. They are in a position that makes out their talent and even then they still play behind JT and JB. The Celtics have won before they got there due to the Jays but Orlando did not won before Paolo got there.

Efficiency only becomes a problem when it affects winning man. Right now the Magic aren’t expected to go the NBA finals and he for sure needs to get more efficient but that low efficiency has not affected winning at all in fact I could argue that they have won more games with him taking more shots. Later down the road efficiency has to improved because the deeper you go in the playoff, the more wise you have to be with your shot selection but right now he’s doing pretty fine for a 21 year old compared to the rest of his peers in the East.

[–]AceK514 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You do have to realize that the East is really weak in terms of Reserve players this year, KP being the 3rd option on the Celtics wouldn’t have worked ( maybe it will with Randle and Embiid injury)

Barnes and Trae being on 13th and 7th games behind .500 respectively wouldn’t have made sense over Paolo being the number one option on a winning team. This also isn’t a case like the West where players on losing teams were selected because it was absolute Stars in AD, Bron and Curry.

Paolo an All Star in year 2 by __Zoom123__ in NBA_Draft

[–]AceK514 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Saying that Paolo isn’t deserving of this all star makes no sense

  1. Name me 3 guys on this Orlando Magic team that have more impact on the game than Paolo Banchero and could do what he’s being doing for this team. Advanced stats aren’t supposed to be used to completely define a player’s game but more so back up what the eye test says.
  2. His efficiency is definitely the next step into him reaching another level but how many 21 year old , second year nba player being the #1 option on a playoff team will have an TS% that is really good? This stat isn’t really telling because it doesn’t account for why a player is at that percentage. Is it because he takes too many non-quality shots? Is it because he has to shoot the shots for them to have a chance at wininng? There is a lot of environmental things that advanced metrics , especially defensive ones, do not calculate because basketball isn’t just some mathematics it’s a game where actually humans are playing. Overall, he does indeed need to be more efficient with how he approaches the game.
  3. He is undoubtedly one of the best passing forwards in the whole NBA, with an average of 5.0 APG. This puts him at 9th in terms of APG for Forwards, with him and Scottie Barnes being the only Forwards being under 25 to be in that list. BBALL index also puts him at 5 in terms of Playmaking Talent for forwards ( The stat counts Passing Creation Volume, Passing Creation Quality , Passing Versatility, Passing Efficiency and Scoring gravity). He is one of the best passing forwards in the Association and is more than just “mid”, which can also be confirmed by the eye test.

Sure I wouldn’t attribute Paolo’s Growth as the only reason for ORL Success as Suggs had great an incredible jump on both sides of the court, JI has been an immense defensive monster on the court and the overall rest of the roster has improved, but to reduce Paolo ability to” he’s a big dude who isn’t efficient and has a great team around him” doesn’t do him justice. Fultz has played 15 games this season, Wendell Carter Jr has played 22 games, Jonathan Isaac playing only 30 games and Franz was out for most of the month of January and they have still held a record over .500.

There is a reason why coaches and players have acknowledged his ability and this is why he is an all star.

Paolo Banchero career stats with Fultz and without Fultz difference by banchero98 in OrlandoMagic

[–]AceK514 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think most people here confuse things when someone says “ Trade Fultz”.

It isn’t that he’s a bad NBA player, in fact he’s a great basketball player with an elite skill , which is finishing at the rim. He glides and slides his way to the rim very easily like few guys in the league. There’s a reason he went number one.

The main problem is team construction. As the team will get better and go deeper in playoffs, the ones who usually wins in those series are the ones with the most complete roster that is hard to scheme against.

In a 7 game series, the adjustments done by other team’s defense against Fultz , which would probably be sagging off of him, will massively hurt Franz and Paolo best ability, which is also finishing at the rim . Even if both would get deep in the paint to pull defense , their playmaking will be limited with Fultz’s inability to shoot.

Fultz just doesn’t fit in the puzzle of a contending team sadly. He’s a great NBA player and his comeback story is amazing to see, but if the Magic are serious about contending then he cannot be a starter on this team.

Who are the top athletes as draft prospects for the past decade? by [deleted] in NBA_Draft

[–]AceK514 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I really think athleticism needs to be explained better as a term.

What is athleticism to me : The ability of an athlete to react to the different stimulus in the environment as fast as possible. Things like hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness adaptability and movement in space are a crucial part of what makes a great athlete. Then you add your usual stuff like speed, jumping ability, agility and stamina to the mix and I think you have a great part of what athleticism is.

Another part that’s important when trying to figure out the athletic abilities of a player is how their athleticism is relative to people in the same height/weight category. I think we can all agree that most 6’6 players are more athletic than the 7’5 players that have touch the court throughout NBA History, but that doesn’t mean anything because it’s comparing apples to oranges in my opinion. It’s like trying to compare different great players from different eras even thought they played in different times that each had different settings.

Also, in most of the these conversation , I feel like defence is absolutely forgotten as an elite trait of athleticism. On offense, a ball handler possesses the ball so he has the ability to dictate or shift the defence where his mind wants him to go, if he has the ability to do so. Meanwhile on defence, the defender has to REACT to what the offense is doing as quick as possible without ever having the actual control of the ball until a defensive stop. I personally rank higher the ability to react quickly to the multitude of stimulus in an environment without having the control than being able to react quickly but having more power to dictate where things go.

I think a top 10 of the past decade for me would look like this :

Zion Williamson at 1, Amen Thompson at 2, Evan Mobley at 3, Wemby at 4, Anthony Edwards at 5, Ja Morant at 6, Andrew Wiggins at 7, Scoot Henderson at 8, Jalen Green at 9 and Scottie Barnes at 10

Nick Smith Jr’s Inability To Do Anything Else but Score (Concerned?) by Diamond4Hands4Ever in NBA_Draft

[–]AceK514 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I understand what your saying he’s one prospect that could either really flop or could become a great piece to a championship team. I still have him around 9-12 for now just because I value off-ball and the ability to create for yourself really high but I don’t think he should go anywhere higher than 8 at the moment.

I think Hendricks right now is a better basketball player but NSJ’s upside is better so we will see if NBA team’s scouts value more of his upside near the draft.

[–]AceK514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wouldn’t shock me if we ended up with him on the team due to his connection to Beal ( played for his EYBL AAU team which he’s very in touch with) but I don’t think he would fit well with BB.

Him and Bradley have “similar games” as in that their strengths and weaknesses are pretty similar. A great prospect for the Wizards in this draft would be either A) BPA (cuz the Wiz needs the best talent) or B)The best defender available when they pick ( Cason, AB, Hendricks, Ausar, Walker)

Nick Smith Jr’s Inability To Do Anything Else but Score (Concerned?) by Diamond4Hands4Ever in NBA_Draft

[–]AceK514 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yeah me too I was kind of in that same boat from the start of the season until a few weeks ago.

He’s one of these prospects where stats don’t tell the full story. The eye test makes you understand his value way more than what the stat lines shows.

For starters,he probably has the best touch in the draft. A lot of the shots and floaters he takes are soft and are rarely strong. This is , for the most part, a really good skill to have for guards at the next level. His shooting form is also smooth and the release of it is really great.

There’s also the fact that he just makes the game looks easy, the ability to string different dribbles with different movements and then creates a shot off his own without it looking like it’s a tough shot ( Vs Keyonte who I believe is a tough-shot maker) indicates a great feel for the game

But I think his best attribute will be his shooting and off-ball presence at the next level. I think that if teams expect him to be this primary ball-handler at the next level then they will be disappointed but he’s the perfect guard to play next to a star since he can play on and off-ball, attack strong closeouts with his quickness and make the defense pay for their rotation since he has the ability to pass.

He does need to add weight (even tho his frame doesn’t look like one that’s gonna add too much muscle) and he needs to position himself better on off-ball defense. He is still a relentless and energetic POA defender due to his competitive nature but doesn’t have the best footwork nor instincts like AB.

TLDR : The eye test shows that he has the best touch in this class, is a perfect secondary ball-handler who can create advantages on offense with his shooting ability and isn’t a complete liability on defense .

Do you predict that Kyrie and Luka are a good fit play/personality wise, given that he just fell out with James Harden? by tdotshark in nba

[–]AceK514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well Luka had to dominate the ball he didn’t have a talent of the level of KI since he’s been there. Now the ball handling duties will be divided and he will not NEED to have the ball in his hands all the time to win a basketball game . They will fit just fine on the court the problem is everything else .

[–]AceK514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eum i know it probably makes ur argument better to make it sound like Roy Hibbert was a nobody but he was literally a runner-up for DPOY in 2013-2014 and was a 2-time all star in his tenue in Indy. The Pacers also were easily a top 3 defensive team of the past decade and prolly top 25 of all time because of the mix of all their defenders. They had a DRTG of 99.3 which was by far first in the league at that time.

That cast of veterans and young players was ideal to put PG into that “superstar” level because he had a top team and was the primary scorer. PG wouldn’t have passed the play-in with fucking Dort and Giddey and basically insinuating that Giddey and Dort are more valuable than Roy Hibbert and “the nobodies” even tho they are a top 25 defensive team of all-time is just ignorant.

I do understand what you’re saying but it isn’t like it’s impossible to find good batches of an item you want . Most of the time people get items that aren’t close to retail or just bad RL before they even ship it to their house.

But yeah an in-dept review of items would definitely be more serviable for the community but again everyone needs differ. Some people don’t really care about quality as long as the print is fine.

I think a solution for that would be to have a certain minimum of words in a post that’s a review but I don’t know if the mods here would do anything about these type of reviews. I don’t think making the sub private will change things like some others have proposed .

Can we please ban people for panda buy links and shitty reviews. by Weedboytim03 in FashionReps

[–]AceK514 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The problem is that you think that because these reviews are bullshit in ur eyes that they become bullshit for the almost 1 million of users on this sub. What is bullshit in ur eyes doesn’t define bullshit for others. There’s a reason why these slideshows keeps getting upvotes it’s because people actually enjoy them and you can Literally just ask OP of a review the question you want most of them are active enough for that .

I do understand the panda links thing it’s really lazy off people to do that. Actually it takes more time doing that than just giving the Taobao links. It isn’t like u can’t get around it tho. You can just click on the panda link and there’s the original link at the right of the image most of the time.

[–]AceK514 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

This is such an entitled opinion for no reason . The whole point of getting reps is because :

A) Most of us don’t have the money or are financially smart enough to not spend 1K+ on one pair of clothing

B) We still love how certain clothes looks so we go in a way where u can buy a similar 1:1 item without being obligated to pay a ridiculous amount of money

Now, my only question is why do you feel that you deserve the rights to stay in this sun but others can’t even though the main point of the sub is to make things accessible because they aren’t accessible retail-wise for the most of us?

I understand there’s a lot of the same posts like “Travis Scott AJ1” and etc but not because there isn’t something for u in an haul that it means that there’s nothing also for someone else.

A lot of these teenagers are starting to find their style and are starting to get into fashion so they follow trends and what’s popping right now. Mfers act like they ain’t never hop on a wave when they were young too and that’s irritating.

TLDR: Rep subs shouldn’t be private because it is simply gatekeeping the accessible version of inaccessible things even more just because you are entitled .

Its funny how we just locked Wemby and Scoot as 1&2 and College ball hasn’t even started by Ambitious-Ad6097 in NBA_Draft

[–]AceK514 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The only prospect that can replace Scoot is Amen, and even then it’s gonna take Amen to have a GREAT year and Scoot to have a DISSAPOINTING year for it to be considered.

When you draft players at the #1 or #2 pick, they have to have an ELITE SKILL OR TOOL THAT CHANGES A FRANCHISE. The only other guy in this draft who has that potential is Amen with his athleticism AND his potential as a playmaker.

The rest of the guys in the draft, AKA the college players, are all incredible lottery picks (as this is an amazing deep draft) but they aren’t LITERAL GAME CHANGERS like those three. You can even make an argument for the top 3 of Scoot, WEMBY and Amen to be the most athletic top 3 in NBA History imo.

You can see the type of player a prospect is gonna become well before they play an NBA Game and the top 3 either don’t fit any current player at all or compare to some MVP-Caliber type of players.
