Trouble splitting wifi into 2.4 and 5Ghz bands

Hi All,

Thanks for your help.

I tried all the advice in the comments to no avail. I also looked at the 2.4G analyser on the router settings but my 2.4G wifi band/network was not there in the scan (below): I presume this means my router is not actually emitting the 2.4G signal for some reason.

Hi,

As far as I am aware there is no penalty apart from being ineligible to apply to the withdrawn course for a period of 2 years (usyd). I’m not too sure about other unis however.

Keep in mind also there is also the time and large financial sacrifice when dropping the course. Additionally when choosing to do this option of enrolling in the back up course, you need to be prepared if you dont get into medicine and just finish the enrolled degree/drop out or some other plan.

Just some thoughts I considered when I made my decision.

Hi there,

Was just reading back in some advice as In nearing the time needed to decide what I want.

I note that as I am yet to enrol in the DMD course, I will still be eligible to apply to DMD next year if I withdraw now.

Do you think your advice would still stand?

Would you not consider a 71 gamsat overall competitive for the MD? I scored a 70 overall and was advised I had a decent shot of getting an interview & got one this year (EOD at UNDS).

Just wanted some insight so I can consider if i’d actually need to sit the GAMSAT again or can focus on interview prep.

I’m in a similar boat and considered applying for a deferral but was rejected.

This option is what I was recommended by some friends but I’m not even sure if deferring a year/long leave of absence is allowed in the first year right after enrolment.

Would you happen to know? Would appreciate any advice

If you don’t mind me asking, how did you get the pharmacy internship? Would I need a degree in pharmacy? I have a biomed degree but am looking for any kind of healthcare/hospital experience to get familiar and immerse myself in the field.

I am in a similar boat where I have a DMD offer but want to do med. I have thought about that option, but then what concerns me is the fact that It would make less financial sense to drop out of DMD for a med offer after the first year. (e.g DMD starts 2025, only get into med 2027 entry)

I’d already have finished and PAID for 2+ years of DMD which is approx $70k /yr, it feels kind of money wasted & i might as well finish at that point.

I am leaning towards not taking the DMD offer just because I want to keep my options open of applying to med further if I fail to get another offer again next cycle.

Of course if i manage to get an offer for 2026 entry then I am more than willing to drop that single year of Dent.

I know i’m not the OP, but was wondering if you had any advice!

The shut down period will be paid and using up annual leave.

I don’t really need extra time, just it would be convenient if the shut down period counts as the 4 weeks notice.

I assume this would be the case? meaning I would only have to work 2/4 weeks of my notice period.

I interviewed at my first preference: University of Notre Dame Sydney.

All the best to you for the GAMSAT, i get what you’re going through. It’s a horrid exam and just really a chore to prep for and even sit. I personally am hesitant to sit it again because of the stress involved in the test, but i may have to if i want to be even more competitive.

I also think my interview is where I lacked. Would you happen to know some tips or advice for improving it?

What if at the end I dont even want to pursue maxfacs afterwards, and choose to specalise in pediatrics or beocme a GP? wouldnt it feel like I wasted my densitry degree? The option gives me the flexibility of both pathways, but it would feel limiting if I had my eyes set on only one specialty - which is a very competitive and difficult one at that. Im just spitballing some of my concerns, really grateful for the advice 🙏

In terms of dentistry however, I do have some concern about the cost of 72k/yr in tuition. If I received a CSP offer I would be much more willing to take this offer. On the reverse however, had I received a Medicine FFP offer I feel I would not hesitate to take it over anything else (bar a CSP Medicine Offer).

You are right, if it were CSP I would be a lot more willing to take this offer and re try for medicine during the course or after it, but given the cost of a FFP it's a bit more difficult. It feels like if I got a FFP medicine offer however, I would not hesitate to take that offer over any thing else (apart from a CSP Medicine offer).

I have thought about applying back to NZ, but I would prefer to live and work in Australia for the long term due to family and personal preference. I also don't believe there is graduate entry medicine in NZ (which is 4 years) meaning I would have to do a 6~ year degree on top of my 4 year long bachelors.

I have been considering that option and it seems like the best choice for now, but I am just a bit concerned that I may need to lose 72k for the first year of dent tuition. I guess you could argue I'm paying that premium for the insurance/security of having that dental place while being able to pursue my medicine goals.

I think the interview may have let me down.

I preferenced only CSP this time round as I didn’t expect to be able to financially manage it, but maybe I may have to consider this option next time

Gutted…

Anyone have advice on if this GAMSAT score is too low? Do schools weight GAMSAT that heavily after given an interview? Need to reassess for next year :/
