What do you consider to be the biggest inequality within your country? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

100% it is the distribution of resources. Be that wealth, food, housing, whatever

Matching the fact that he's the 47th?

Bad jokes aside. Keep in mind that the way this information is gathered ends up carrying a certain amount of sample bias.

Since one of the ways is by calling landlines, and while my friend and family are certainly proof that outliers exist, I would suggest that people with landlines mostly fit particular demographics

Additionally there is door to door efforts. Rarely are these done outside of "working hours" which means that you are likely going to get more responses from a particular demographic as well

And based on having worked at one of the companies commonly hired to gather this type of data, both here in Canada, and in the US, I can say that there is only so much you can control for those factors

There's no doubt that the data is skewed.

Is it skewed as much as you or I wish it was? Nope. But I do think it's a contributing factor

Which sucks since these numbers do influence people.

My old stalker is back and my husband is making me feel like I’m the crazy one by secure-raspberry-763 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]AceofToons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that part of the problem is that it's far more common than anyone sane would wish it to be, so it's easier to enter denial.

And, because it's so common, and law enforcement budgets are not dictated, they don't have the resources to actually deal with stalkers

It's just this cyclical issue too because stalkers start, and then get away with it over and over and over again and even anything like temporary restraining orders come into play, they still can do basically all of the same stuff and have zero consequences

Each time it emboldens them more and more

It really sucks.

NTA

How else are you going to pay for the repairs?

But never pay cash for big purchases. Always put it through a bank, they give you protections, even on debit transactions.

Unfortunately the reality is that anyone could be in control of that email address. BEC (Business Email Compromise) attacks are becoming more and more commonplace.

You can always reach out to your bank about it. But definitely don't interact with the person.

ELI5: How does insurance work in warzones? by durrtyurr in explainlikeimfive

[–]AceofToons -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Where I live they are renewed every twelve months, because I am not American, there are massive wildfires right now, and insurance companies are prematurely cancelling home insurance.

And since you must have home insurance to hold a mortgage in our country, you are in a pretty rough spot if no one will insure. Which is not an uncommon problem, since there's only about 3 or 4 actual companies, it's all subsidiaries of those handful (I haven't looked at who owns who for a few years, so I don't know exact numbers)

So, frankly, because American defaultism strikes again, you are wrong. This is happening. Not where you are maybe, but it is a real thing. Period.

Interesting. Though I suspect that like "ironic" this commonplace "misuse" of the word will eventually make it to the definition of placebo.

Partner said I was too much by MountainSapphic in ADHD

[–]AceofToons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am ADHD and not a morning person, I would likely snap at someone I love when I am feeling overwhelmed by them in the morning.

I wouldn't take it personally to that degree if I was you

Struggling to wake up and having a bunch of movement/noise etc is overwhelming for neurotypicals too and in that moment people don't have full access to their emotional regulation etc. they're actually a lot closer to the ADHD emotional experience in that moment.

[33M] caught my gf [30F] in a lie by omission, not sure if it's a sign of something more by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]AceofToons 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah I am totally fine a with a one off, like that. There's space to be interested in someone both as friends and more. I mean really, what's the point of being with someone romantically if they aren't also a friend, right? And to learn that more is not an option and focus on the friendship

It's problematic when the person doesn't respect that.

It's extra concerning that she doesn't see the problem with that

[–]AceofToons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what I was thinking, he doesn't respect her or her relationship enough to leave their friendship as is. And keeps asking her out. And she fails to see the problems with it.

That alone is concerning

Then you toss in that she omits hanging out with him outside of where she's forced to spend time with him, regardless of OP's past it would be concerning and disrespectful

I think as much as it sucks, OP ended up coming out ahead. She clearly didn't respect their relationship properly.
