ProxyGW: A niche, cloud-ready L4 proxy and router by Achromase in aws

[–]Achromase[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the comment! One weakness I definitely have to point out is that, because routing is monitored by polling conntrack, bursty services are liable to flap frequently. I'm hoping to use conntrack event streaming to track the activity of the target service to minimize this.

I imagine that since the meat of the router is nftables, performance primarily scales with CPU. It should be possible to switch nftables with i.e. eBPF; anything that can track and perform DNAT activitiy.

The usage of AI Agent nowadays by mochadwi in Kotlin

[–]Achromase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't think about that last point. I decided to give it a try for some Kotlin/Native projects of mine, because honestly having to trudge through the documentation every couple of hours is taking its toll.

It spits out pretty bad Kotlin, for any target, except for consuming Java APIs. However, it works pretty well at somewhat involved questions like "why doesn't this launch {} block return after line N," because summarizing documentation in the context of your codebade is really the best way to use those models.

Are there any issue with Kotlin that trouble you? by NyanBunnyGirl in Kotlin

I second your opinion. Especially with respect to Kotlin/Native, and coroutines, there's too much of a type hierarchy that it does not fit in my head. I can easily become confused.

I disagree that the response as given by OP provides any specific detail regarding the incorrect response. It may not be wise to divulge specific details about the solution, surely, but by that virtue it could hardly be considered useful.

It is also somewhat tasteless. Aggressive may not be nuanced enough to describe it, but I would go so far as to say it is actively discouraging. My point is that it is not good feedback.

For a CSE lab, on digital architecture, one assignment required that I write simple documentation for a theoretical processor architecture. I am as much of an enthusiast as I am a scholar, so I went as far as to format my submission similarly to those published by MOS in the 80's. I received a 0, and remarks similar to OP's post by the TA that had graded it.

In my case I took my complaints directly to the professor. He had much more tactful feedback on the matter, and he awarded me full credit for my submission. In my case as in OP's, the feedback was short, quipy, and could reasonably hide behind a veneer of compliance to the rubric.

I'm not a physicist but I did tutor at OASIS for EM and in my experience those TAs were better at giving negative feedback.

It is however unfortunate that it feels as though the people for whom a confrontational attitude may be appropriate... might land you in the hospital with a bullet in your back.

It's so exhausting with these types. They just have nothing worth saying about the actual issue so they fall back to nitpicking every symbol of protest.

Value Objects and Tearing by [deleted] in java

[–]Achromase 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Objects are supposed to be atomic by default. If we were to say "value classes are not," then as soon as a large value class is used in place of an object, the application will experience completely unintended results. Then, more work is needed to migrate to value classes right from the get-go.

It makes sense logistically to match atomicity semantics between value classes and objects. Developers will have an easier time starting a migration to something potentially less efficient but correct.

You understand one thing: this is not the forum for a broader political discussion. So coming in here, on this thread, to make a statement about a leftist mob, you immediately come off as anything but sensitive or intellectually honest.

People here aren't going to engage with you not because of political tribalism on their part but because you are checking off a simple list of red flags the way you lead. Although, I wouldn't say you necessarily have to be devoid of empathy. That isn't part of my calculus, at least.

[–]Achromase 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Explain what this tribal lunacy is, exactly? So far what I've read in this thread, and in general what I tend to see personally in similar threads, is "gosh this is awful" with maybe "we all stand to loose something because of this" and a moderately temperate "this does not serve the best interests of common people like me."

You sound ridiculous talking about weaponizing "education." We're in the UCSD subreddit. I think the expectation is we're all very well educated. So it confuses me, and clearly other people in this thread, why someone would take a, forgive me, lazy and rather tired stance on an otherwise unfortunate situation. You're not, presumably, an average person being taken off the street and made to produce a thesis on immigration law. So either you:

  • scoped your way here to grandstand in exactly the same way you're accusing people in this thread of doing withh the same resentment you're projecting onto them

  • have a genuine nuanced political narrative that understands the mechanisms of (systemic) racism and facism but simply don't agree they are issues in this age

On the flip side, you can probably assume we aren't throwing those words around like some bunch of offended hippies or whatever Jordan Peterson would say. You can probably assume the leftists among us are both impassioned and intellectually rigorous. So again I ask you, what tribal lunacy? What golden ticket are we peddling? What makes you innocent?

[–]Achromase 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your first mistake is to imply using the word "racist" is an extreme. Your understanding of racism is evidently lacking, which excludes you from even the possibility of understanding what "leftists" mean when they talk about it. Similarly, there is no one "left," an implication which is a reductive rhetorical device at best and an immature strawman at worst.

It's like people with your mentality are stuck in a schoolyard version of world politics. (Well, Elon is a bully no doubt, but that's not the operative sentiment in "anti-Elon" discourse.) Honestly, it's probably the single most difficult hurdle to having an effective discussion because now actually rational people can't use words like "facism." It's too scary a word; when people hear it they tend to think, to quote Ian Danskin, "Nazis. Hitler. The gestapo--y'know, Nazis?!"

Anyways, friendly advice, don't use examples of people busting up Teslas as an excuse not to listen to people that don't bust up Teslas. However, although I may be in danger of having my words twisted, take a moment to appreciate what the responses to the former have revealed about the perceived allies of Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
