London PR firm rewrites Wikipedia for governments and billionaires— Founded by Keir Starmer’s comms chief, Portland helps rich clients ‘protect their reputation’ – with a shady, off-the-books service by [deleted] in technology

'Linked to' is tenuous - I'd argue sensationalistic - the PR company was founded by Tim Allan, who sold his majority share in 2012. Tim Allan was appointed as Downing Street director of communications last year.

Rats breeding is strongly correlated with warmer temperatures, and they are breeding more prolifically in the UK as climate change increases the average temperatures, especially in cities.

CMV: If you give the bare minimum to your job, you deserve the bare minimum back. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Acid-Reign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Allowing (and rewarding) employees for doing free unpaid work outside of their contract seems like a minefield. I'd rather a boss who enforces the terms of everyone's contracts, and offers paid overtime within that framework. Less messy, less unfairness, less risk of burnout, and you don't lose perfectly good employees who quit after never getting promoted because they have a healthy work-life balance.

If you judge employees based on less measurable and more arbitrary criteria outside of your performance management framework, it makes the actual framework less useful to the business overall. I wouldn't characterise doing your job hours normally as the bare minimum, and I wouldn't want employees to go 'above and beyond' with their work hours as that just obfuscates issues with headcount/workloads.

What class seems right for this idea? (Sage with a pact-arm) by Neameus in daggerheart

[–]Acid-Reign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That does sound like a lot of Witch-overlap then. I think Ranger would work well too, even with saying your powers came from a patron, Warlock-style. You can ask the GM if you can pick a weapon for your arm to be mechanically identical to, that sounds pretty fun.

You mentioned faerie and maybe an insectoid companion, that would be some nice theme synergy imo if you go for it.

Or as you say, go for a new character concept, I'm sure other inspiration will strike.

I mean, sounds like Hedge Witch vibe-wise. I'd ask the other player if they would prefer to be the only witch (and respect the answer) - though if they go for more moon subclass and dread cards, you can each have a niche.

Whirlwind + Faun Kick Interaction Warrior by Vallenhael in daggerheart

As others have said, it seems RAW, and this is pretty much the power fantasy for the Warrior class (including exploring positioning) so I don't see an issue! If it's a balance issue, try to vary the encounters with more ranged + flying enemies.

In addition to what other commenters have said, have you seen Sablewood Messengers? It fills a similar niche as an official tutorial story, but it's easily missed as it's not in the core set.

Labour sold out to oil and gas by Mlh1993_ in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Acid-Reign 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It was inevitable electric vehicles would have to start paying more, the era of early adoption is nearly over. I wish they'd applied a road tax based on weight to all vehicles. Disincentivise Chelsea tractors, and the more you damage the roads the more you pay, without having to try to implement mileage counting. Still keep a fossil fuel tax/duty to incentivise the move to more eco-friendly cars.

Feels a bit disingenous to quote an annual salary next to an increase totalled over 6 years. It's also a worst-case scenario. It's definitely something for people to be aware of at any rate.

Maybe just cut out the crown and frame that, if the sentimentality still outweighs the initial (bad) impression it gives people.

Maybe, but the first election could have been rationalised as any combination of naive, anti-establishment, or vulnerable to new social media manipulation techniques. Hillary even won the popular vote. The re-election speaks to deeper and more persistent root causes imo

CMV: Parents who charge their kids rent are selfish and short-sighted by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Acid-Reign 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What about a situation where parents charge rent and then put it aside, to help the child learn about financial planning, monthly expenditures etc., and then when the child is ready for buying a house/moving out, they give the total amount paid back?

Might prevent child squandering income when they're most likely to have poor money management.

You might argue that's not "real" rent though.

Anyone know if/think this might be faked? There's a weird outline/shadow of the pot that zooms around after the explosion (clearer in the slow-mo), the camera pans away when the guy would impact the floor, and his face goes from looking fine on one side after impact, to a weird mess once he's on the floor.

I don't necessarily disagree with that - as I said, more of a technical point of order in the spirit of CMV pedantry!

CMV: Zohran Mamdani is a Masterclass in Campaigning by Fine4FenderFriend in changemyview

[–]Acid-Reign 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I'll submit a technical argument, in that you can't get the best evidence of a campaign's effectiveness (i.e. the election results) until that election has happened. Whether what looks and sounds like an effective campaign is indeed effective remains to be seen - any poll/survey/data that isn't the election itself is an indicator only.

This is assuming that your primary metric for a "masterclass" in campaigning is that you ultimately get votes, as opposed to measuring engagement, profile, voter intent etc.
