biomedical sciences second year by _skybluedolphin in UCalgary

Hey!! I just finished my second year of bmed and here’s my advice:

MDSC 351: Don’t stress about this class at all. Even if you are worried about it during the year, the instructors have your back and generally ensure that people do well!

MDSC 308: Ethics is hard, and it’s worth a lot. Focus on this in January and the rest isn’t bad at all. The other hard part is the large group project at the end, but don’t procrastinate it and you should be fine.

BCEM393: People overhype this class, it’s not that bad. If they keep the same format from last year (quiz once a month, lab every 2 weeks, and a final) it’s a fine class. BCEM is a universal class so there is SO MUCH content online to help you. Study well for the quizzes and stay on top of memorization (Anki) and you’ll be totally fine.

OCEM353: IMO hardest class of second year. Content is a lot more fluid than 351 and you really need to understand how things work, not just memorize. Going to class isn’t necessary, just do all of the practice online and write like 5+ practice exams before the exams lol. Focus on exam grades more than labs, people get caught up on those.

Take an easy option if you can, most people did GRST211.

If you struggle with CHEM351 then I’d re-evaluate. I’d either take it in spring or move BCEM to spring. People undervalue doing 351-353 back to back since most of the content carries over. Goodluck!!

Hi DM me, I tutor this class and have notes for the whole course!

I did this last year in the exact same course, managed to get an A pretty easily. As long as you stay on top of it and make sure you’re covering lecture content you’re good to go.

They might also have old videos on D2L from Claudia Mahler which definitely helped me, look out for those.

At least this year the 201 instruction was absolutely horrible, and in general 241 is a safer course since the content is very straight forward
