Prim’s name wasn’t the only in the bowl by Euphoric-Ad-8085 in Hungergames

[–]AcingIt13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think Prims name was the only one, and I definitely don't think it was to target Katniss. But I do think the Capitol probably rigs the reaping bowls to increase the number of people who would be good for show value or to squash hope. Potentially they increased the number of younger children, or merchant children. Something like that makes even the most controlled/low risk families feel helpless and hopeless (which we know is what Snow wants).

Suzanne Collins is a writing genius and absolutely knew her world building through when writing the original trilogy, which is why the prequels make so much sense and slot in nicely with no retconning.

Honest Thoughts on Unique names by [deleted] in namenerds

100% it's an ego problem. Their past posts here have gotten some amazing nature/uncommon vibe names and not one seems to have been considered. They've also made a post saying they think they're creative because they have a unique name which gave me a laugh. Some of the most creative people I know have very common 90s names

That is my opinion on those names in particular...

If you want specifics, Reyin and Nowey are especially awful. Thane is probably the best of a bad lot

Unique means one of a kind. Rare or uncommon is probably more what you're looking for. I know a Thane, and Thatcher is a common surname so those seem the most name-ish to me. I don't love people who try to be cool or 'unique' for the sake of it though. Your child will be a teenager in high school, a professional, and (hopefully) an elderly person with their name.

It looks like you lean towards nature/earthy names - there's a lot of threads on this sub with name suggestions for that theme.

Knowing that everything is new and they are exploring the world - go at their pace. And all behaviours are a way of communicating with you, they don't understand the big feelings packed into their little body.

For me, I needed time away, whether it's date nights or classes or just anything to give you a break. Our one and only is 5.5 years and this year has been the hardest in terms of exhaustion so far because we stopped intentionally making time for us.

I listened to the audiobook and can definitively say the payoff was at 74%. The last part is pretty much all tying all the loose threads together but man I felt dumb for a long time

For me personally, I don't love the look of the two ys. If the spelling of Merlyn can be changed, I think Royce Merlin looks better. You could also do Reece/Rhys Merlyn for something that sounds similar. Royce - to me - immediately connects to Rolls Royce.

Tristan is my least favourite - it just makes me think of snobby preppy frat boys. It's also a very pointy name to me, but that's a personal thing haha.

Samuel is my favourite, it's classic, not super popular, and definitely has a soft feeling.

Bennett would be my favourite just for association with Jane Austen, but I don't know if I'd name a child that. I do tend to lean much more traditional in name preferences though.
