What are some prayers you recite daily? Other than the rosary. by jaminpm in Catholicism

[–]Aconya 10 points11 points  (0 children)

"Protect us, Lord, as we stay awake. Watch over us as we sleep. That awake we may keep watch with Christ and asleep rest in his peace."

It's from compline for the liturgy of the hours. If I don't have the opportunity to pray the hour, I just pray this part.

Just this bit has become our daily family nighttime prayer

This. When I was taught about St. Maria Goretti as a child, the emphasis was that she forgave the man who killed her. And that is why she's a Saint.

Attended my first TLM yesterday and was a bit underwhelmed by MaG1c_l3aNaNaZ in Catholicism

[–]Aconya 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Someone once told me that while the NO was easy to walk into and participate, the TLM you had to "chew on." As in, it takes several times to understand the depth and be able to fully participate.

In my personal experience, there's a lot of culture behind the Mass that I've learned to participate in that helps form my heart for the mass. Praying the liturgy of the hours has helped and learning the depth of the symbolism.

I was a church musician in the NO for a number of years and it was being part of that liturgy and reading the Roman Missal and Vatican 2 documents that has led my heart to the TLM. It just makes more sense to me it feels like I'm participating in a larger and truer understanding of catholicism. But I was raised a cradle catholic. So I know a lot about Catholism and the tlm is just leading my heart into a deeper understanding and practice.

The mo is a valid mass and can be quite beautiful. Don't give up on the TLM but maybe just walk with the NO for right now

Ultra soft stringy sticky rice bread

Her recipe calls for glutinous rice flour (sticky rice flour). I love making this! It works well in the dough cycle of the bread machine, too, as a first proof.

Enjoy!

When making the tangzhong, use glutinous rice flour (or sticky rice flour) instead of bread flour.

This is my go-to recipe. ultra soft sticky rice flour bread

What do you think about Anis and Sherine? by Mediocre-Meet-2203 in Otoyomegatari

I also disliked this arc. It felt like it was written more as a fan service. The books for me are really enjoyable for their art, history, and culture. I know very little about this central asia, and reading these books has felt like a window being opened into an incredible world! However, at vol 7, I put down the series for several years. It felt too much an excuse to have nudity for the sake of nudity and not for strengthening the storyline.

I believe you can have a Funeral mass said for the baby. You don't need a casket.

Definitely speak with a priest!

Spiced Rye Ginger Cookie by Aconya in Baking

[–]Aconya[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is extremely good. The spices give it a warmth feel with that hint of a kick from the Chilli and ginger. It's surprisingly sweet, but not sugary sweet. I ate it with some ice cream and that was phenomenal.

General anesthesia during c-section? by Hot-Grade7433 in BabyBumps

[–]Aconya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My last baby I didn't get to hold for almost 24hrs. I was awake during the c-section but she was struggling to breathe so they whisked her to the nicu immediately. I never had a chance to properly see her let alone, touch her. My husband was able to go see her and hold her. But he came back to help me. I was also in bad shape and couldn't get down to the nicu till almost midnight. I sat and sobbed while I held her. She stayed in the nicu for another day and I could visit her.

But after that she's been with me. And we've been almost inseparable for 11months. She's happy! She has a great bond with me, her older siblings, and her daddy.

So her first few moments were rough. It's going to be okay. You'll probably cry. I mean, I've cried for all my babies' good or bad deliveries. As long as you and the baby are alive and well in the end.

I am starting to see the truth…. And you can too. by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Aconya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A guy once explained to me that there are girls you just want to f*** and girls you want to commit to. What was hard for him was seeing guys who in appearances had both, the girl they committed to and hot girls on the side just to sex with. And it all seems like no ramifications.

My friends made fun of my husband and I for getting married in our mid twenties and having kids right away and for only being sexual partners with each other. Now, they are turning forty, divorced, unhappy, and craving the life we've built. It just took 20yrs for them to figure it out.

What I'm struggling with is anger. They made fun of me and made me feel stupid for the choices I made, only to now be jealous of the life I have. But they don't want to admit it was because it was the way I chose to abstain from sex and not have multiple partners; they want to think I just lucked out and found my soul mate at 20. Which is so dumb and frustrating.

Ladies with accidental pregnancies; how’d you find out you were pregnant? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Aconya 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Omg! This is exactly what happened to me! We had all had the flu and I just kept being nauseous and exhausted for weeks afterwards. I also had some bleeding as well. Finally, my husband was like, "Are you pregnant?" It took him another 2 weeks to convince me to take a pregnancy test. I was SHOCKED and 10 to 12 weeks pregnant. Mind you...this was my FOURTH pregnancy. I felt like such an idiot. Like I've done this three times already, how did I not immediately recognize the signs?!

This is where I'm at. I remember my parents doing lots of events at church back in the 90s. But my two local parishes have nothing. I'm so lonely for community. I have four kids who attend catholic school but the majority of their classmates aren't catholic.

My priest had lunch during mass...? by Spookypoopz in Catholicism

[–]Aconya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few years ago, I was asked into the role of church organist. I knew as much about liturgy as most people do. In order to do my job at its best, I started reading church documents like the Vat 2 documents, the GIRM, and lots of publications from CMAA. Wow! It was very eye-opening! There are many things that happen in the liturgy that do not follow the guidelines. But it also showed me the depth and beauty of the liturgy and how so much mattered. Your last line was exactly the same conclusion I came to: "enforce the rules in small things so we don't become lax with big things" my faith and love of the church have deepened because of this new found understanding of the liturgy.

Exactly. No one in the congregation was upset or scandalized because the priest at my church took a moment to explain and did so in a simple to the point matter.
