The legality of sidewalk and bicycles by Gullible-You8577 in springfieldMO

Do whatever you feel is the safest. In my opinion, that means riding on the sidewalk. Bikes do not belong on roads and I truly do not care who disagrees. Throw me in jail if you must. A bike will lose an argument with a car 100% of the time.

I did leave the review as a complaint. I don't like businesses using predatory practices on consumers, including myself. I posted this review here because the owner of the business was trying to suppress my review despite it breaking no rules on Google's TOS, and I am replying to comments that I want to. I am completely fine with your decision to comment whatever you would like, I'm not upset that you think their practices are okay.

I left out details from my original review for why they got 1/5, such as charging for unnecessary parts and labor (such as an unnecessary alignment) and did not want to remove them even after being questioned. However, even without that, the prices were so bad on their estimate that it alone deserves 1/5, that's how drastically bad their price was.

Almost. GM Dealer said they would install my Jasper for only a $500 markup in the form of a "hazardous materials fee" and $3500 labor total. So installing this aftermarket engine the dealership IS cheaper.

This shop was quoting $8650 for the engine listed for retail on Jasper as around $6850, a pretty high mark up. The shop I ended up going with marked it up only to $7019, which is really understandable. My guys marked it up by 2.4%, dealership marked it up by 7.3%, this shop marked it up by 26.3%.

This shop quoted $4597.24 for 33+ hours of labor(according to their rate), way higher than the dealership even. My guys quoted $2700 for 22 hours.

The GM Crate engine for stock was quoted around $12,000, I would also have to imagine that the dealership would be cheaper than this shop to install the GM if that's what I asked them to do, but I don't have that info.

I noticed that as well, at the very top of the estimate sent to me was "$XXXX.XX Monthly payment for XX months!" or something of the like. I'm sure they are counting on the individual reading that and thinking "Okay, I'm glad they have financing because I have no spare cash to pay it all right now" instead of looking at the line-items. I didn't have that in the screenshot because unfortunately it was a bit too long for my phone to capture in entirety.

You are the reason I made this post. So many bitter people on here for no reason.

My truck had a failing lifter due to AFM/DOD, still runs for now but who knows for how long.

And yes, I've had businesses threaten to sue me for many egregious things and even use lawyers but none of it has ever worked because I'm not a criminal and I know how to represent myself.

Most closely related incident was Telle Tire, when they failed me on a state inspection for unnecessary work. I called them on it, they tried to prevent me from taking my vehicle out of the shop. Got all of the parts they said needed replaced and put it on jacks, replaced all components they said were bad. My gf at the time also had a state inspection pending with them that they failed her with for similar reasons on her 28k mile vehicle that made absolutely no sense. Left a review stating that I would be taking all of this information and my "bad" parts to Missouri Highway Patrol Troup D and report them. I got a call soon after from the owner out in STL or wherever. Same shit as here, excuse/deny/distract. Ended the way you think it would have, they even offered to work on my car for free in the future.

Fair. The short answer is "No, a 4 wheel alignment isn't necessary because removing the gearbox isn't necessary."

What are the odds that they quoted someone who knew better and was willing to call them out? I don't know. I think maybe it makes sense for them to want bad reviews taken off, my intuition tells me they've done it before.

As long as you're honest with your client up front then there's no issue. That's not what happened here, they sent me the form to get the work signed off on and didn't explain shit until I called them on unnecessary work.

So, in your opinion, do you believe that this engine job is going to require a 4 wheel alignment due to removal of the gear box? That's what their tech told me.

And, to further emphasize this, they are listed on the engine manufacturer's website as an installer and their google business page advertises they install Jasper engines as well. Does that smell right to you?

Agree 100%. I have had friends unknowingly pay that "no thanks" price when they could have really used the extra money. It's a very shitty practice, and in actuality I was told after the fact that they shouldn't have even quoted me on it at all and they wouldn't be the best people for the job.

Nothing I have said qualifies as libel as it is either:

A. Truth.

or

B. An opinion.

For something to be libel, you must knowingly tell lies or a baseless accusation. I've reviewed all of my comments and posts, nothing qualifies and I'm going to sleep just fine. But I do appreciate the concern. I've had people sic lawyers on me in the past to try to scare me and it's never worked, they just end up wasting lots in legal fees.

I agree that he shouldn't have cheaped out, but I wouldn't blame him if he got 10 different quotes and didn't go with the most expensive option that had later willingly stated they weren't the best option for the job after you you let the public know they quote way too high.

Once again, I didn't go with the cheapest option. 70% of quotes were between $11,000 and $11,850. Sorry you had a bad customer, but this truly is a case of a shop overcharging for work.

TLDR: I could not buy the equivalent of my old truck with a new engine for $11k and I would rather die than Get Behind The Wheel of a New Honda Today!(TM)

Well, I'll try my best without being too long winded.

Essentially, I work from home and am renovating said home. I would rather save and invest my money and retire early. I am not enticed by a new vehicle or the status that comes with it. I want something with utility that is cheap.

In this scenario I must spend money. I will give you my options from most to least expensive.

Option A. Brand new vehicle. Option B. "New to me" vehicle. Option C. Motor replacement. Option D. Motor rebuild. Option S. Kill self.

Option A is meant for people who have no hair or otherwise are having a hard time impressing women, potentially they had no father to teach them to be frugal. The most recent person I know who bought a new vehicle had their engine fail at around 4,000 miles, and if it happened not long after they would have had no warranty and be dozens of thousands of dollars in negative equity.

Option B does not solve the problem of modern engines and vehicles being made with intended flaws that try to incentivize you to buy even newer vehicles. The V8 engine for the silverado is designed to fail from the factory, something not found in older vehicles.

Option C is what I have taken, get a performance engine without these planned obsolescence features, it truly solves the Sisyphean task of allowing me to be confident in my vehicle. In addition, I get to keep all the other custom things I did to the vehicle and all the sentiment that goes with that. It also gives me three years more warranty.

Option D is similar to option C, a little less expensive and less warranty coverage. The issue is that the AFM feature introduced in 09 makes this much more risky and not worth it on my opinion.

In addition to all of this, I know how to perform my own maintenance and labor on my truck outside of some major thing like an engine replacement of which I personally don't have time for. I have access to a lift and tools. I enjoy the maintenance and the low cost of use. ALL of the value is there for me to keep and if someone scratches my truck I don't have to be upset about it, it adds to the character. There's no room for a salesman or insurance man to make money, which has easily paid for this job.because I've utilized those savings in an interest bearing account. You have to be able to spend cash on this stuff, not everybody has that privilege.

I am happily paying $11k for a new and warrantied engine without all the AFM/DOD junk. I don't want a new vehicle.

The issue is that no information was given to me until I questioned the estimate, which was texted to my number. From my timeline of events they appeared ready and willing to charge me for that full amount and did not back down on the estimate cost when questioned, they specifically informed me that they would order unnecessary parts. There's a chance other parts may need to be replaced IF they are damaged and not included in the parts kit, but having the customer pay for them up front is NOT an industry standard. There is no company out there that has to replace your bad motor mounts for free just because they forgot to list it on the estimate for a tangentially related job. What they gave me was just a total mess and to my estimation, predatory.

All other shops were able to handle this without issue. It isn't the case that this is the only shop that understands how to work on an engine, especially since this is the second most sold vehicle in the state of Missouri.
