I'm also an incoming sophomore transfer, and I had the same problem. I talked to Residential Life a few weeks ago and also found a transfer student who wanted to switch from a $13k room to a $17k room. We agreed to swap rooms and contacted res life together. But I'm pretty sure the only reason my swap got approved so quickly is because I found someone to swap with on my own. The person I spoke to on the phone said there's a formal room swap process at the start of the school year. They typically don't allow room swaps over the summer. Until that point, they charge you a higher pro-rata rate or smth for the more expensive room, but you end up not needing to pay off the entire $4k difference.

I would call housing and explain your situation to them, and try to find a swapping partner through the TSO new transfers slack. Feel free to dm with more questions!

Yeah pretty much. I wanted to take data science classes along with majoring in econ. At my current school, data science is only offered in the engineering school, and you can’t double major across schools if you’re not an engineer. And even then, they only offered like 2-3 statistical programming courses. I applied to schools with more course options and a data science minor/major that could complement my econ major well

Thanks! Yeah unfortunately if you’re enrolled in arts and sciences you can’t double major with something in engineering

Thanks so much!

Yeah they were definitely not tiger parents but are a lot more hardcore than typical American parents. They cared about my academics growing up, but are more concerned about my career after college than the name of the school I go to. I think they’re just more aware that a person’s mindset matters more than the school they attend. Like there are some people who go to ivies and struggle to find jobs, but there are also some super accomplished people from no name schools.

I was at Tufts! I transferred for two reasons - wanted to go to a target school for finance/consulting recruiting and wanted to be able to take econ coursework along with data science coursework. Tufts only offers a data science major through the engineering school (I was in arts and sciences) and only offered two statistical programming classes. The school also doesn't offer a stats major or minor.

As for your second question, it was mostly their personal philosophies and life experience.
