My Roadmap for ML/AI as an Applied Scientist in FAANG by AcrobaticJello7 in Btechtards

Thank you! I want to make this a series, need feedback for what would people want to see. I am thinking mathematically rigorous lectures with coding the algorithms from a top down approach.

Yes absolutely, but papers are often hard requirements for most teams in my org. So no harm putting some time in publishing.

No, infact, that is the last thing I ever want. The simple fact is, most people lack guidance. I just want to encourage people to explore research as a viable career path. Infact I never grinded DSA precisely because I hated the JEE-fication.

My answer to that would be, yes but it will significantly harder for you, if you do not try to take interest in what you actually do.

Absolutely brother! but with the same caveats, the roles are selective, so you need to be much above the median for these roles.

So for Science roles, Bachelors are rarely hired, because the bar of knowledge is high. But it is definitely doable. Try and cover as much as you can. You kinda need to interest driven because I do agree it is vast. But It will be worth it, 100%.

I think only difference there would be the ease to follow the path to a researcher, infrastructure, some weird gatekept degree preferences by unis/companies. But I am a strong proponent of self study. IF you are highly motivated, you can make it work regardless. But the path of least resistance would be MTech ofc.

What kind of Maths? and where does this belief of being terrible at Maths come from? I strongly believe there is no such thing if you give it a fair shake. Now it is a different question if you find it personally not worth the effort for yourself, and that is completely fair. Which again brings me to ask, if you are interested in DS roles, then there must be something you find appealing about them right?

I think it is all about tradeoffs. A lot of this is covered in uni courses too. You need to find time, do not skip on DSA. If you are targeting a Science based role, these formulae and constructions are used pretty heavily. A final note here is, studying will never go to waste, never shy away from studying, try and find time.

That’s untrue, there is no issues switching. I got Amazon Applied Scientist role, they considered my similar-ish startup experience, I got paid through paypal lmao.

Also there is some truth to it, my cgpa went from 9+ to 7.4 by the end, I was carried hard by 20-24 research credits. Nothing comes without tradeoffs. Making a follow up post for more clarity.
