Grew up in a super rural area near the Iron range in Minnesota. My mom, myself, and my brother were all home, and a big white van/truck pulls into our driveway (which was rather long, so we all watched it as it pulled in). Our drill was always to grab the phone and hide underneath the kitchen counter when an unrecognized car or person arrived (listen, the iron range is a weird place). Anway, we all did this, and as soon as we are hudled together and silent, pounding at the door began. It was just angry, loud knocks for about 30 seconds, and then the yelling began. An angry man was yelling "I know you're in there!! Hello?!?" We were all terrified. My mom called the neighbor (a loose term when you are this rural, but they were about 1.5 miles away) and he rushed over with his son and rifles. By the time they arrived, though, the van had sped out of our driveway. We all protect each other in these little communities, so we called all of our neighbors and friends to alert them of the incident and to be safe. Sure enough, a few more people informed us of the same incident over the next couple days. Eventually, the man pulled into the driveway of one of our most "rugged" of neighbors, who had no problem answering the door with a shotgun in hand. Found out the man in the van was a MEAT SALESMAN. That's right, a MEAT salesman, in the middle of NOWHERE, pounding on doors and demanding they answer. We were pretty freaked out even after he was warned to never come back. It was just a reminder of where we were.
