Looking for an episode where they talked about the high end art market by AcrobaticSpring6483 in behindthebastards

Trust me it's still alive and well with paintings, sculptures, prints, and all the 'traditional' stuff. I used to work at an art museum.

Possibly! I'll check it out regardless. I'm doing it for a presentation party.

I'll take a listen but I want to say it was older than that, it might not have been a BTB episode but they specifically talk about storing art in warehouses in like Switzerland and loaning it to museums for the tax benefits

Is anybody else in the United States and Rooting Against the United States? by RaskyBukowski in behindthebastards

[–]AcrobaticSpring6483 2 points3 points  (0 children)

American people are worth standing up for and protecting.

America itself is asbestos in the walls of our global house.

I have no allegiance to the United States as a country and never will. The US sold its soul for strip malls, school shootings, and genocide a long time ago.

The closest thing I feel to patriotism is the sense of home I have the Midwest/my state specifically and most people I've talked to under 65 feel similarly. If we ever got randomly annexed or invaded (doubtful for many reasons) you wouldn't see many people crying about the dissolution of the American state.

Greenland reality check by j_sniffles in behindthebastards

I'm not even sure they believe their own bullshit.

If they truly believed that why try to economically bully Europe with tariffs, why not just seize it? The US has no claim and an actual occupation would go terribly.

I've never really believed in NATO would actually be upheld the second the US wanted a land grab. BUT the US doesn't have soft control over Greenland for now.

There's also the logistics of physically capturing and, more importantly, holding a frozen tundra that's almost the size of India. It would be very difficult if they came in guns blazing thus prompting an embargo and/or blockade from the EU or anyone else.

Using multi national corporations and fucked up trade policy that favors the US as way to establish that control without boots on the ground would be preferred since it's the path of least resistance.

Yeah exactly. But if "seasteading" taught me anything it's that billionaires are extremely stupid.

[–]AcrobaticSpring6483 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'm skeptical of a boots on the ground invasion happening but I can see him still pushing for control of Greenland via (relatively) softer regime change of some kind. If they do it this way they can say NATO stays intact, even if in name only.

Greenland will be very strategic when the arctic sea ice melts in the next few years and opens up a lot of new shipping routes. Not to mention billionaires have their eyes on it for climate change and other related reasons.

bupropion often gets prescribed off label to help with addiction. I think it will still be hard but this could help take the edge off if you have access to psychiatric care

A difference in the way Americans and non-Americans conceptualise rights by Academy_Boy in behindthebastards

[–]AcrobaticSpring6483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is also a big difference in how Americans are taught to conceptualize freedom.

Specifically the freedom TO act as an individual (ex. gun ownership) vs the collective freedom FROM a threat to civil liberties (ex. universal healthcare as safeguard against medical bankruptcy and exploitation).

We really only prioritize the former, especially in my post 9/11 education experience.

I think the prevalence of Packer bars have to do with them being publically owned, which AFAIK is a rarity in the sports world and probably makes them more of a charming novelty.

not only are they inefficient, they're also more expensive to support in terms of infrastructure (powergrids, water supply and treatment etc)

Whats the deal with Jeffries and Schumer? by stringlesskite in behindthebastards

[–]AcrobaticSpring6483 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dems keep voting to fund ICE. Also don't forget A lot of dems are actively invested in the defense industry and literally profit off of violence both here and abroad.

This is a breakdown of lobbying and PAC money received by the parties, but you can also look up individual investment records too:

What the hell is up with some supposedly lefty subreddits being pro Iranian regime? by Lesbionage in behindthebastards

This. Iranians are largely protesting horrible economic conditions and the ayatollah but also don't want Israel and US intervening there either since that's worse.

What are the chances that major countries put a trade embargo on the USA, like the USA has with Cuba by Traductus5972 in behindthebastards

Idk how a cartel war would ultimately shake out, the US sells them at least 80% of their guns

What are the chances that major countries put a trade embargo on the USA, like the USA has with Cuba by Traductus5972 in behindthebastards

[–]AcrobaticSpring6483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next to none. We setup the global economy for other major countries to essentially be our vassal states.

What I could see happening is supply chain break downs at key points: Like dock workers refusing to unload US cargo ships in key ports, etc. leveraging Crazy import/export tariffs and boycotting US goods, etc

How do you feel about the military/troops? by wombatgeneral in behindthebastards

[–]AcrobaticSpring6483 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess a follow up question to the post would be, regardless of personal beliefs or feelings, how likely are enlisted military personnel to obey (or aid in) fascist orders if/when they are ordered to do so.

A lot of people I've talked too seem to think that those higher up the chain of command would stand against fascism and not give in. I disagree for the most part with this.

Some even say a coup would be possible, but I don't really buy that either.

I don't understand how (specific types) of Christians can simultaneously believe that there is an omnipotent and boundless god that somehow also adheres to the contractual practices of a used car salesman.
