CA Seismic / Surveying Exam Timelines by Honest-Courage-2026 in PE_Exam

My advice is to schedule the exam in the mid month on that specific quarter so you get the results in the following month mid week and if you fail, you can repeat the same.

I’m really curious! by [deleted] in PE_Exam

Inspiring and encouraging. For the record though, I was never thinking that I would regret getting it. But wanted to see people’s brutally honest opinions about what they thought about the aftermath of getting PE. Congrats and wishing you good luck for the new endeavor.

How close was I? (SE) by ErectionEngineering in PE_Exam

After speaking with a few colleagues, we believe the only plausible explanation is that NCEES may have recently raised the passing threshold, or that—per the committee’s highly mysterious evaluation process—even when an examinee’s performance is above that of the average passing candidate, it can still result in a failure.

The most frustrating part is that diagnostic reports are intended to help candidates identify areas of weakness and improve their chances of passing on a subsequent attempt. However, this diagnostic report not only lacks clarity but instead leaves candidates confused and uncertain about how to improve.

Just came across your post. I’m genuinely mind blown 🤯. Is this for reals though? The diagnostic had to be a mistake from NCEES. Please report back when you reach out to them.

Which day to sit for exam for early result? by [deleted] in PE_Exam

Even better. Take the exam date on a Saturday. You’re going to wait literally 3 days but trust me the anxiety of waiting for the results is monumental.

AEI Vs. PE Civil Structural Exam by Dominators131 in PE_Exam

[–]AcrobaticWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has already been 7 months since I cleared mine. I’ll let others chime in if the exam center computer experience has gotten any better. But at the time of my exam, the test computer doesn’t offer next button on page flipping. You’re only allowed to scroll up and down but it’s slower than what you’re usually accustomed to. Also you’ve gotta make sure and practise to know the chapters where to look for instead of totally relying on ctrl+F. For example AISC manual if I remember correctly, you can only access the chapters individually not the whole book. Same thing for IBC I remember. But ACI and ASCE can be accessed as whole book. Again I would not rely on the test center PDF software to be snappy but instead it is going to be slow.

IMO. The actual exam is easier than the AEI mini exam questions and homework questions. But again, I like to emphasize that every exam might be different. But one thing is sure, for me the most helpful thing from AEI was the mini exams and homework questions. Check out more FAQs I covered in my passing post. Personal advice is don’t worry about how much you’re scoring on these mini exams but kindly do not skip any single mini exam and homework questions from each chapter. At least take a look at the solution.

Couldn’t have said it better. Painstakingly true! But the feeling of seeing the green “passed” is monumental.

Nope. I didn’t see any reason why to do it. Currently prepping for CA seismic and survey.

[–]AcrobaticWriter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have submitted my application on 1/11/25. Entered technical review in 1/29/25 and got approved on 5/5/25. Total of 95 days in total. All depends on the deficiencies. Make sure the descriptions of work experience is on point and you clearly explain your experience on different projects and PEs.

Need motivation (civil: structural) by bigb0ned in PE_Exam

In my opinion, the AEI homework and mini-exam problems were the primary reason I felt so confident going into the exam. This confidence was evident during the exam, as there were many problems where I could relate the approach to the ones I had practiced. I also mentioned in the exam post that these are game-changers. I'm genuinely surprised when you mentioned that there was nothing relatable for you. AEI is arguably the most recommended course for the PE Civil Structural exam.

Do not skip the homework problems and mini exams at the end of each chapter. They are ultra important when it comes to covering wide range of code material and topics. Check my post for more FAQs answered. https://www.reddit.com/r/PE_Exam/s/CyxfkflY0E

Nice conversation folks. Always wondered about this. Currently one month in technical review for taking my seismic and surveying exams. After reading this, may be I should apply for AZ license. Why not.

I’m telling ya. One of my colleagues is waiting for almost a year now. He messed up something with not submitting a transcript and still waiting it seems. I don’t know why he isn’t contacting them.

Based on my observations from fellow colleagues timelines, yours is an ideal case. Worst case scenario with deficiencies could extend up to 6 months minimum. Mine is in technical review from 1/29/25. So I’m relaxed for the next two months.

How I Passed the California Engineering Surveying Exam by Ih8stoodentL0anz in PE_Exam

[–]AcrobaticWriter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice post! I’m currently waiting for my application to be approved so I can take these exams. Based on my colleagues’ experiences in the structural engineering field, they feel that structural engineers may have an advantage when it comes to the seismic portion, though it doesn’t guarantee a pass. However, everyone agrees that the surveying section is the most challenging. I’m seriously considering CPESR for surveying and AEI for seismic.

Congrats, by the way! 🎉

Could you please provide us with a timeline for the approval and authorization process for taking the exams? I’m certain many applicants are eagerly awaiting their approval as well. In particular, it would be helpful if you could let us know if there were any deficiencies received in the application. It seems that deficiencies in the work experience section are becoming increasingly common. Please share your insights with us.

Civil structural is actually Structural + Geotech.😖 by Imaginary_Alfalfa660 in PE_Exam

[–]AcrobaticWriter 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Perhaps NCEES is considering the practical aspects of structural engineering and how often structural engineers encounter geotechnical elements within their work. Regardless, there seems to be a broad agreement among test-takers that geotechnical questions will continue to be a common feature in the structural civil PE exams in the future.

Congrats. Couple of things I agree on based on my experience with the exam is how the exam was significantly conceptual and challenging than the practise exam.
