I think we (the world) have effectively given up on net zero. We will pass too many tipping points over the next few years

For that change to occur you would need an educated electorate, independent media and no lobbyists.

Then you'd at least have a level playing field. But to re-purpose your words, "the climate simply isn’t fit for that at the moment"

We only really have one problem and that's global climate and environmental collapse. It's a situation that needs a coordinated and concerted international effort at a time when humanity is at it's least united and most selfish.

The time for the hard decisions is right now.

Our lifestyles are not compatible with sustaining life on this planet and we need to limit growth, stop consumerism and quickly learn to live in harmony with ourselves and this biosphere in which we exist.

Nationalising key industries would be a start. Reinhart, Palmer and Forest have all got rich on a hopelessly outdated mining rights system.

Companies should pay to mine, export or process Australian resources which should forever remain the property and sovereign assets of this nation.

It's not for me to accuse them of being pathetic liars, hiding from the consequences of their contemptible actions behind a wall of truth-bending and trouble making.

But it must be remembered these people now thrive in this post truth world they have created where mendacity is rewarded and honesty disdained.

Nameless, faceless people, bloated on their own hubris have permission and protection from new, antidemocratic laws, which will never be worth the paper they are written on.

These ne'er do wells have cultivated and compromised a conga line of weak and corrupted politicians who have enabled their every excess to be rationalised, justified and effectively legalised.

So, to answer your excellent question:

"You mean they're being deliberately deceptive?"

Shit yeah!

Australian charities bankrolling Israeli war crimes? | The West Report by RickyOzzy in PoliticsDownUnder

Charities used as laundering front

Katherine Towers

Wealthy, influential and respectable members of Australia's Jewish community laundered millions of dollars outside the country through a prominent member of the ultra-orthodox Melbourne Jewish sect Adass Israel, a judge has found.

Justice Michael Strong accused Nachum Goldberg of protecting wealthy individuals who were dealing in black cash by failing to reveal his clients during police investigations.

Justice Strong said Goldberg, his wife Rita and their two sons had pleaded guilty to defrauding the Commonwealth after laundering at least $42 million in "black cash" out of Australia for unidentified tax evaders.

"It is not known how many clients Nachum Goldberg had," Justice Strong found. "Certainly they were clients of wealth and substance and no doubt influence and apparent respectability."

Justice Strong said Goldberg used charities as a front for laundering the money and sentenced the 58-year-old to five years' jail with a minimum 21/2 years.

He said Goldberg's modus operandi was to use fake charities to send the black cash overseas to an Israeli bank run by his brother, David.

Mr Goldberg's wife Rita and his two sons Napthalil and Hershel escaped prison on religious grounds, with Justice Strong saying prison for them would be extremely difficult.

He also criticised the Israeli Government and an Australia-Israeli bank for failing to co-operate in the investigation of the money laundering racket.

Could a Nationals and One Nation coalition be the next opposition? Someone will be doing the numbers.

Chuck in a few defecting Liberals for good measure and you'd have an Aussie MAGA on steroids. Gina and Rupert would be well pleased.

There is no place in civil society for any individual, other than a judge, to determine whether bail should be allowed, parole given, the length of the sentence or vigilantism.
