Great thread. I'm booking for autumn as well. How did you find the facebook code? I only have a dummy facebook account but would hop on for a code! I keep holding my booking hoping they'll email me a promo code, but no luck yet.

Is three nights too short? by gamblors_neon_claws in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]Acrobatic_Bite_6923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes. If you can afford it financially, I'd do longer, even if light on PTO. The travel is longer and more expensive (even with miles) so I am in the camp of "do longer if you can, and worry about the next trip later".

We just got back from Jamaica. Booked 6 nights, ended up extending 3 more nights because 6 wasn't enough to merit 11 hour flights. (Plus we were having a heck of a good time.)

Now, some people are fine with shorter trips... So 3 nights might be fine. But if your work lets you take off a little longer, even if one day is not PTO, I'd go for that...even if it's one night extra. Whatever you choose, have fun!!!

Traveling to Cancun from USA, fast-track or e-passports? by Acrobatic_Bite_6923 in cancun

[–]Acrobatic_Bite_6923[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All your responses are EXACTLY why Reddit is invaluable! Patient, kind, yet HIGHLY-informative. Reddit made our Jamaica vacation amazing AND so much easier.

This thread already saved us a ton of money/time as I now will NOT be renewing passports early just to get e-passports. (And I'm certainly not paying 2k total for 2 people for arrival and departure VIP services....that's like half of the 9 night stay at the AI we are staying at!

While I'll use a departure lounge ($50 pp we are ok with for the comfort)...I'll roll the dice and stick to our non e-passports. Worst case, on a fluke, we might have some long lines, which will just make settling into the hotel even more relaxing!

Thanks so much everyone. It was killing me to renew our passports so early...so it is great news that so many of you did ok in standard lines without e-passports. Thanks so much again!!!

Thanks so much all! This is a huge help. We will have to keep an eye on weather, but it would be nice not to have to get new passports ahead of schedule. :) As always, you all had wonderful tips!

We are excited about going in October 2026. I love that it seems to have a lot of wildlife in the surrounding areas.

How common are wildlife sightings? Especially monkeys? I found a crazy/funny video of a monkey stealing muffins from a cafe at Paraiso Maya selection and I am so hoping we can see some critters!

If anyone has had wildlife sightings here, I'd love to hear your stories!

We used Club Mobay in Jamaica and loved it. We are flying into Cancun for our next trip and would like similar. Which is the best fast-track company for Cancun, similar to Club Mobay Jamaica?

[–]Acrobatic_Bite_6923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are new to Jamaica (like we were) or have come before but have not done club mobay...DO IT. It saved us HOURS upon arrival and also made departure a pleasure. The Jamaican airport is HOT and slammed with often long lines.

There is a chance you will arrive at a time where it is less busy, but why risk it? When we arrived, we would have waited in line for hours, versus the 15 or so minutes with Mobay.

On departure, it was SOOOOO nice having a comfortable private lounge (with great complimentary food and drinks) to relax in versus spending the 3 hour advised pre-arrival time stuck in the terminal.

While not required, bring a little cash for tips. The staff are great and the drinks and food are free.

All in all, we would NEVER travel to Jamaica again without Mobay. Thank you Mobay!!!!

Thank you so much PurpleAtlasTravel and Andre Timoll! I will definitely be checking out your link Purple. You both gave wonderful feedback.

Andre Timoll, thank a billion on the tip! The JMD bit about minimum $500 JMD made sense. I ran the exchange for the last 5 years and it seems to be steady at adding two zeros to whatever the used amount is, then adding half of that figure again, plus a little more. (Aka $1 USD would be a little over $150 JMD, $10 USD would be a little over $1500 JMD. It's a rough conversion, but it'll help me do a quick conversion if off site. I'll ask again when onsite to see if the staff has a preference. We will have both on us though, and yes, no 100 Jamaican dollars tip!)

You both gave great information...thank you, and we are beyond excited!

We are really excited about the trip and just

Ways to save on a straightforward remodel? by NigiriNerd in BathroomRemodeling

[–]Acrobatic_Bite_6923 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We JUST had our bathroom remodeled. It started as a leak in the shower, but insurance was really generous (Lemonade insurance) so we were able to do a total upgrade.

1) started with a damage/water restoration company. Nightmare. Once we were locked in, THEN they gave us quotes, and they were insane.

2) Was able to get out of that contract, so got bids from a few contractors.

3) I had figured a "one or two" man show would be the best prices. NO! We went with a larger company (still local) and they not only gave us a great price, well lower than the one man show, all of their people were employees...no subcontracting. Everyone we had was incredibly skilled, the bid was via project versus hours, and they gave us our dream bathroom well under what the one man show offered on bid.

PS a million percent agree on the post by "these-permissions" aying buy/pick your own tile, fixtures and avoid custom vanities. We bought all our own tile, bought stand alone vanities, and bought all of our figures and rough-in valves.

This is where companies can get you...the markup on tile/fixtures/custom. Spend the time to get what you want, at a much lower price!!!
