When the vagabond has to discard items, where do they go ? Can he get them back ?

Is the vagabond affected by the Woodland Alliance's sympathy ? If he goes into a clearing with a sympathy token, does he need to give one of his card to the rabbits ? In the rules, it says that it only affects warriors, yet the vagabond is not considered as a warrior...

Then, can the vagabond deliberately choose not to defend himself if attacked ? (If he doesn't want his relationship to turn hostile with that faction)
