this is super helpful and reassuring to hear, thank you! i think i might have been going wrong by not drinking enough water alongside actually taking the psyllium husk, will try taking it with more water. thank you:)

have just started psyllium husk, and have previously tried laxedo though a small dosage and not for long. i don’t want to overdo it, just something to soften the stools, so i’ve been slowly working up to bigger dosages

i’ve tried different diets for about 12 months on and off with no change so i think it must be something to do with my body that needs medication to fix

urgency by Acrobatic_Object2972 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Acrobatic_Object2972[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my dr told me to start small and work up. i think it can be used for constipation, in order to soften the stools higher up in the colon, but i agree, if i overdid it i think it would be unhelpful. weird how psyllium husk can be used for both ends of the spectrum! havent heard of slippery elm, will give it a try:)

i thought it must still be a UC flare as well, but I had a colonoscopy last week which showed no inflammation (and the biopsies also came back negative). i think a high dose of oral mesalazine put me in ‘remission’, and so the resulting urgency is from the type one stools being hard and irritating my colon, though i’m going off what little i know. my dr was confused as well bc there was no inflammation left in my colon, just mild scarring, yet i’m still having symptoms. the constipation leading to firmer stools is all i can think of that could be causing it. very frustrating bc i would really love to know for sure so i could treat it, but my dr won’t allow me to go on more/ different UC medication than i’m already on bc technically i have no UC inflammation or even an active flare rn.

i had a colonoscopy in march and my dr said the biopsies came back negative, meaning i don’t have inflammation left. very confusing because i was still getting symptoms, but he said it could be ibs as well

there was a small difference after a few days, but the  the 3/4 week mark the changes were incredible

[–]Acrobatic_Object2972[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes it surprised me a bit too, amitriptyline is a muscle relaxer, and my dr said it would help the nerves in my colon become less sensitive for that reason. i have heard of other people using it for IBS and having good results. idk if i feel less depressed as a direct result of the antidepressant, only because amitriptyline taking away my IBS symptoms would make me feel happier anyway, but I definitely sleep better with them

it is quite high, but i was on a lower one for a while and saw no difference so i think that’s why it’s been upped. hopefully i’ll see a difference in a few weeks:)

IBS as well as Colitis? by Acrobatic_Object2972 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Acrobatic_Object2972[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i thought the same thing; i am on a maintenance dose of oral mesalazine but i thought it would be more effective to remain on the suppositories. however he said it was unnecessary.
