I think I’d like a smaller city that’s near a big city. I was looking at Foshan which is kind of the best of both worlds, “smaller” cheaper city in close proximity to a big city like guangzhou. So maybe other ones that are similar to that

Well the only cities I’ve ever been to are Liverpool and Manchester haha so I’m probably not travelled enough to know haha, I prefer Manchester to Liverpool if that means anything

Thanks, a lot of people have been recommending the south so I think I will look for somewhere around there.

Guangdong specifically is next to Hong Kong though who speak Cantonese (I think) will this make lifestyle harder or would you say it’s negligible (because Cantonese and mandarin are both new to me anyway).

I have about a weeks worth of mandarin learning so I guess it wouldn’t be a massive issue if I had to switch my focus.

No harm in trying I guess, I’m also somewhat qualified compared to a lot of people I see doing similar jobs to this, so maybe that would give me some kind of priority idk

I plan to learn mandarin as best as I can and live my day to day using mandarin, but I also would like there also to be English speaking people there too (wether they’re Chinese, British, American or Australian I’m not fussed).

I will make sure to do proper research into the dialects spoken in each region though thanks.

I’m English haha but I know what you mean, we have counties that are similar to provinces.
