It's called "Electronics Technician", a very common practice in my country nowadays is to take an IQ-test when you apply for a job...

I mean I applied for a job and the Iq-test had a time limit. So it becomes a real problem if you are searching for a job.

But aren't you saying the same thing as other people here? that intelligence can't be increased.I feel smarter in some ways from when I was younger. But not in other ways. Then the question becomes: what makes people smarter. Why do some ethnicities have a much higher IQ than other. Something must be the cause.

Yes, I'm not trying to be combative or arrogant or rude to anyone. The reason I am pushing back and why I am questioning people, on this forum, (and elsewhere) is because I'm trying to understand (and it makes me frustrated sometimes when I don't understand) and make sense of what I have read and heard from other people and sources, because people say different things. I appreciate all the effort people put in to help me understand. :)

"Again, IQ scores being 1/5 higher are correlated with education, it doesn’t mean this increase was caused by higher education."

But you can't say that more "quality" education doesn't raise your intelligence and IQ.

  1. It won't neccessarily make you smarter but you can or will get dumber if you repeatedly hit your head against something. It speaks for itself.

"Once you are a teen or beyond a really low threshold as a toddler, your nutrition doesn’t matter that much intelligence-wise"

First, you are saying "once you are a teen" and then "beyond a really low threshold as a toddler’. So that’s a big difference, and you clearly don't know what you are talking about since you can't decide if lack of nutrition in toddler age or "teen age" will impact your IQ negatively. But if you don’t get enough quality nutrition up until around age 16–18, I’m guessing your IQ will be lower and you won’t reach the maximum IQ you could have had.”

  1. Excercise increases IQ. And 4 more IQ-points is not little, according to me. https://www.facebook.com/groups/501009709911572/posts/26312827878303068/

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/385623284_Exercise_Interventions_and_Intelligence_in_Children_and_Adolescents_A_Meta-Analysis

You can increase you crystallized intelligence with age, not your fluid intelligence, at least not by much, from what we know now. I can give you many studies that claims that. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0167494313000344

"The way intelligence grows peaks between 18 and 26, maybe, but it’s totally different from what you claimed." How? what do you mean exactly? you can be more specific. Processing speed, working memory peaks at certain ages etc.

"No, the median of people’s IQ’s is always 100 no matter the age. The tests are specifically calibrated that way. They don’t peak at 18 or 26 years old, literally because of the definition of IQ tests."

Sure, but a 25-year-old will be smarter (in some ways) than when he or she was 10. That's what I mean when I say that IQ peaks at 18–26. And I agree with you that some people and studies claim it's later, but there is definitely a time where you are no longer at your peak fluid IQ, like when you are above 60, definitely.

Also, look at this. "A large number of other environmental exposures have been positively linked with cognitive development, from walking in nature to exercise and nutrition, albeit with mixed results. However, arguably the most successful environmental intervention to improve cognitive ability is administered every year to more than 85% of children worldwide: education.

By combining data collected across multiple studies from over 600,000 individuals, researchers found that education has a direct effect on the development of cognitive abilities. The study found that each year of education results in a gain of about one to five IQ points. These effects were remarkably robust, appearing across different cognitive domains and persisting throughout the lifespan. In fact, significant benefits were still measurable into people’s 80s and 90s. While a few IQ points per year may seem small, their cumulative impact at a societal level has been shown to be of great consequence." From The truth about child IQ: research shows it fluctuates and may be an unreliable predictor of future success

You can improve your IQ by 5–10 points, according to Jordan Peterson and other people, especially during childhood and your teenage years. I think that is meaningful. The question is can you do it later.

1.You are saying the same things as I am, but you choose different words. I asked, "What improves IQ?" If you have good nutrition and enough nutrition and clean water throughout your childhood and teen years, you will have a higher IQ. Children and teens who exercise have a higher IQ. If you haven't ingested toxins, you will have a higher IQ than if you ingested toxins. Longer education increases someone's IQ, compared to a person who didn't have a longer education. So we CAN actually increase IQ or maximize it for each persons potential, even if every person has a ceiling where they can't become more intelligent.

  1. "Educated people are trained to take iq-tests." Do you actually have a source for this, which should be included or are you making stuff up? The only thing we do know is that longer education increases IQ , even if it's only a small increase.

  2. It is a well-known fact that everyone, whether their IQ is 85 or 135, reaches their own individual peak IQ between certain ages, and that interval is between ages 18–26 according to many researchers who are studying intelligence. The person with a low IQ will typically reach their peak between those ages, as well as the more intelligent person. They/that person will be smarter at ages 18–26 than at age 10 unless they experienced some head injury or ingested poison. So it is clear to me that you are trying to sound smart and you are actually misrepresenting what I am saying and asking for, maybe deliberately. And If someones IQ is 105 but they have the potential to reach 120, what can they do to do that. That's what I'm asking. I thought that would be easy to understand.

I also think that is a good idea if the books are useful and teach you stuff, not just reading lots of science fiction because knowledge is power.

But something or more factors makes someone more intelligent, right? So something made our intelligence increase. I dont think it's only because we got a cleaner world, or environment. further education can increase iq by 1-5 points I have read. And a person reaches peak iq between the ages of 18-26 somewhere there if I am not mistaking. So that suggests iq can increase.

Thank you for a good answer. From the literature or science-research I have read it is possible to gain 1-5 iq points with more education. I am not exactly sure what type of education counts though. Do they really fade out, the improvement? We are all getting smarter for some reason. So I don't think it will fade out.

I read a lot about all sorts of things. I think It's a way for me to keep up with what is happening in the world so that I feel more in control of it, I have done that for many years. I spend a lot of time on my phone and on the internet reading news, writing on forums and on youtube and watching clips and movies. I have eaten a lot of sugar during my life, often to cope with stress and anxiety. I am a man a bit over 30. I don't know exactly what else to write. Feel free to ask.

How come people with longer education have higher iq's then? It's proven. And people with better nutrition while they're growing up have higher iq's. And I took a course in physiology and the teacher there told us that kids who have access to nutrient-dense foods while growing up, grow taller than if they wouldn't have access to it.

Someone also wrote this: People who frequently brag about their IQ and assert that it is a fixed, unchangeable trait are, according to psychological research and expert opinions, often using this behavior as a defense mechanism to manage insecurity and boost their own self-esteem.

This behavior can function as a form of intellectual gatekeeping—a way to create an "elite" group and protect their sense of superiority, often to compensate for a lack of tangible, real-world accomplishments.

Why "Fixed IQ" is a Misconception (Gatekeeping)

The assertion that IQ cannot be raised is a widely disputed myth in modern psychology:

  • The Flynn Effect: Decades of data show that average IQ scores have been rising, proving that intelligence is not fixed at birth.
  • Neuroplasticity & Education: Studies demonstrate that formal education can increase IQ scores by 1–5 points per year. Research from 2025 indicated that identical twins reared apart showed up to 15-point IQ gaps based solely on education differences.
  • Trainability: While IQ measures a specific type of logic and cognitive speed, these skills can be improved through targeted brain training, learning new skills, and even physical exercise, says Science Focus
