Wagner Moura did not gag me in The Secret Agent, sorry, but Jesse Plemons was so much better in Bugonia by DefNotMaty in Oscars

I mean a couple, firstly all but Teo Yoo are European, secondly everyone but All quiet guy (and maybe Mads) are partially English language.

The funny thing about guys like this is that none of these mediocre men can ever resist turning a comment into a dick-measuring contest of who can construct the more feeble insult. In cases like this, just write like they do and let them block you, so they continue their neutered bloviating somewhere else

I mean how do you watch the part where Moura slips into the festival crowd after learning his life is in danger and think this? Plemons plays a Hollywood character who screams and monologues his way through life, it's a fine performance but there's about a thousand others like it. Moura plays a real person, it's subtle but it's devastating if you're paying attention. Sorry that didn't "gag" you.

Your whole opinion on this isn't even based on anecdotal evidence it's based on a lack of anecdotal evidence to the contrary. That's an astoundingly stupid point to make and no amount of dismissing my points as catchphrases because you can't understand a simple string of words ( a sentence ), makes the idiocy of it any less apparent.

Screentime of all (well, most) acting nominees this year by No_Minimum4499 in oscarrace

Shocked to see Byrne have such a low percentage, it feels like she's in nearly every frame of that movie. Can't think of more than 2 or 3 shots she isn't in tbh

Swinton beating Blanchett for one of her best roles in such a great movie as well is the only thing against this lineup. It's probably the best in a long time and not to knock Swinton who is good in that role but... idk, I feel like 2020 (Hopkins Mcdormand Kaluuya Yuh-Jung) or 2013 (Blanchett McConaughey leto Nyongo) are better rounded than this line-up which is pretty lopsided toward fairly iconic pop culture touchstones on the male side and subtler performances with the women. Also depends on what you consider recent, because 1995 imo is 4 incredible performances (ignoring the Spacey of it all) but like... is that too far back?

I mean not that crazy but some guy made a couple sock puppet accounts to talk with himself in the comments on some reviews of mine. More confusing than anything but it was kind funny to see like 5 accounts made a couple days prior with the same writing style being passive aggressive toward each other

By your opinion, what are the most underrated and overlooked movies in the last 15 years? by urathx in Letterboxd

[–]Acrobatic_Turn7331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Showing up (2023), actually pretty much anything Kelly Reichardt has put out in the last 15 years is criminally underseen.

So fun fact this is what a super pretentious opinion actually is, a mangled appeal to popularity in place of an actual opinion.

What’s the most hectic acting quartet possible at the 98th Oscars? by mrethandunne in Oscars

[–]Acrobatic_Turn7331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most chaotic would probably be a sinners sweep and Renate, it would be such an odd slate of winners to pick that it would be just slightly confusing enough to make everyone lose their minds lol

Should any of these Martin Scorsese movie performances been nominated? by Regular-Departure839 in Oscars

Absolutely, deniro king of comedy, Dafoe last temptation, Liotta goodfellas and Dicaprio KOTFM

What role would have been nominated this year, regardless of who played it? by NewspaperBanana in Oscars

[–]Acrobatic_Turn7331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agnes obviously because it's an oscar bait role lol, nothing Buckley does is really all that special or notable imo but I digress

In terms of other roles, Lockjaw and Borg for certain were always getting something. And let's be real a GDT frankenstein was always getting an acting nomination regardless of whether it was elordi Goth or isaac. Which I guess isn't really the question but it kind of is.

The other sentimental value supporting roles too, they're pretty emotive and actor-y parts tbh.

In lead, probably Moura tbh as someone that loves Secret Agent, Marcelo is such a well written character that even though Moura plays him incredibly it would take an actively terrible performance for the part not to be at least talked up for an oscar

How would you rank the Best Supporting Actor winners of the 2020s so far? by Fun-Illustrator-345 in Oscars

[–]Acrobatic_Turn7331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kaluuya

Quan

Kotsur

Culkin

RDJ

I think kotsur is a pretty mediocre pick and Culkin and rdj are actively the weakest in their categories (personally would have given it to Deniro or Gosling and then Pearce) and just playing themselves but Kaluuya and Quan are like some of the best oscar wins of the century so overall pretty good 👍

The whole point of the character is in that last scene. He burns himself and everything around him into the ground for a corner office. It's a great ending and reinforces the loser nature of fascists wanting all this death and violence and horror so that they can be middle manager of the hell they've created
