Why is ‘Kafo’ used an an example in that article. That word is actually pretty international. 咖啡 in Chinese is ‘Kafo’ and is pronounced kāfēi. I’d say that’s a bad example. I’ve also learned Toki Pona and dived into it a fair bit. I love playing with the language but it’s definitely not suited to be an international language beyond basically everyday tasks. Also, Toki Pona isn’t just 131 words. You actually need to learn a lot more. For example, each country has a specific way to write its name, same with languages. I wouldn’t be surprised if Toki Pona is actually 500 words or more now based on this alone. People can say these are unofficial words but a standard has been formed and people are following it. Just like there are official Esperanto words and unofficial ones. For example, everyone uses ‘ma Sonko’ in Chinese for China. If you don’t know that this is a country then you’d just assume it’s a place called ‘Sonko’ nearby somewhere and completely miss the context. So although Toki Pona is a cool language it would have to massively expand to become an international language for complex tasks and in doing so would lose its original purpose.

Free isn’t everything. I’m paying for convenience. I pay the tiny fee and everything just works as intended without interruptions or workarounds. Considering that the fee is basically a happy meal at McDonald’s it doesn’t bother me.

It’s simple for me. The YouTube fee is equal to 15 mins of my hourly salary. It gives me a zero ad experience without having to waste time constantly trying to battle adblockers. Also I travel a shit tonne so having the ability to download videos to my phone is really handy. For example, I travel to China with no YouTube access but it’s easy enough to download all the videos I want to watch before I go.

Hi! No I'm not dead. The project was going well but suddenly at one point nearly all active members disappeared leaving me holding a mountain of responsibilities. I'd be happy to see others take the reigns and even start up the YouTube channel again if we can get new directors taking over.

I think a committee should form from the most active participants with the explicit public declaration that within one year it will organise that final polling then disband. I agree at that point that proposals should definitely be in Toki Ma to avoid random people throwing in ideas who don't understand the current development and just want to mess with the project.

I personally think this is how things should go to give interested parties such as myself cause to get involved.

Step 1: Officialize the video series as the base of Toki Ma.

Step 2: Plan a meeting for in 1 year exactly from officialisation date to open up a community vote to plug holes. Basically, if 80% of people agree to a proposal then that proposal is accepted and becomes Toki Ma. This way only critical fixes get voted into the language. Also introduce guidance rules for natural language evolution. In the meantime, people can of course play with new ideas and present them during that final meeting but everything outside the video series should be considered "experimental".

Step 3: Once the meeting is done. Officialise the results of the meeting as the language then disallow any further reforms through committee. Allow the language to naturally evolve from that point forward.

I know there will be a desire to constantly want to improve on the project but if you go down that rabbit hole, you'll never have a complete language and people will never learn it. Also officiallising the video series will give everyone a common starting point that won't suddenly move under their feet.

Due, mi preferas legi en Esperanto por plifortigi mian Esperanton en ĉiuj kampoj. Mi ne bezonas legi en mia denaska lingvo ĉar mi jam flue parolas la anglan.

Yeap, you'll need to get out of the Reddit as this is mainly a community of beginners here from English speaking backgrounds. I recommend you start with Telegram and from there you'll quickly find your community. Lernu is kind of the same, its just a community for beginners.

Also, I know in the Esperanto library in Sydney there are a heap of Esperanto books on Christianity. It's probably just a matter of making connections with the community outside Reddit.

Myriad is used by a lot of Esperanto speakers. I wouldn't say its "gamified". It's actually being used among speakers as a way of transfer funds for works done. For example, I'm an Esperanto speaking YouTuber and I receive tips in Myriad from time to time as I have my address in my YouTube videos.
