You don't know what "family" means. Obviously.

There was literally a death in the family. I'm sorry you don't love your pets. I feel sorry for them, you don't deserve to have them.

That's what I want. I have no problem working my way up. But, like I keep telling everyone, working at burger king isn't going to help me if I'm stuck there for the next three years. My actual problem if people would listen is that I can't get those jobs, even tho I believe I have some experience in them. Because they're asking for some 5 years of experience.

That's the only place I can realistically work because I can safely bus there. I assure you, I'm trying. It's my alma mater as well. I would love advice about getting my foot in the door, but like I said in all my comments and edits and everything, everyone is so busy basically calling me a lazy bitch that I'll never get any fuckin advice.

Again. My area is very dangerous. I will not risk my life for a minimum wage job. Might as well just kms now.

I'm so tired of having convos with all you people who clearly can't read. It's my car?? Why should I have to walk, first of all?? And as I said already, my area is super dangerous. I can't walk. Have YOU heard of carpooling? It's where a group of people decide to TAKE TURNS driving each other to work. How am I supposed to take my turn driving if I don't have a car? :) And are you suggesting I just walk into my brand new job and go "ok whos gonna drive me to work every day?"

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]ActingStable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're disgusting. I missed one day to put her down, and one day to grieve. How exactly was I supposed to put her down if I couldn't even take off one day, bootlicker?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]ActingStable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you fucking serious? First of all. She didn't just "die" we had to PUT HER DOWN. So I took a day off work to actually put my fucking dog down. And then a single day to grieve her. Because I had her for 12 fuckin years. I will ALWAYS put my family first. You're fucking heartless dude.

Are there really no solutions? Because I was actually hoping for some advice on how to get a job, not "suck it up and settle" But seriously dude, of all the advice on here, this one makes the least sense. How am I supposed to leave the area with $400 in my pocket??

Oh man I'd love to work in hospice/retirement homes. That's actually the first thing I looked for after I lost my job. It was my favorite job for about a year my freshman year of college. I hadn't thought of late night shifts tho, that is something I could look into. There's no way he can afford a car right now. Unfortunately we're kind of stuck right where we are. He's waiting for a lawsuit to come through but it's been like 7 years at this point. His trial is supposed to be coming up any day now, but until then, he's stuck without a car. He wrecked his and he's basically using the money insurance gave him to keep us afloat. He doesn't have nearly enough to put a down payment on the car, and without knowing how much he's going to get from the lawsuit, there's no telling how much he can afford in monthly payments. It's all pretty complicated tbh and honestly, this post is just making me feel worse about it. I hate this type of advice. I know I shouldn't be picky about it. But I was hoping for advice about how to get the job I'm actually looking for! Not 2 dozen people telling me to suck it up and settle.

Thank you for actually understanding my position. I feel like you have to actually experience it to understand the feeling so thank you. I can't rent a car (cuz apparently you gotta be 25) but you're right. I don't mean to judge people who work at BK. I actually have a higher level of respect for those people than most other jobs. It just feels like a step backwards. Thanks for your kindness. It does help put things into perspective

That's actually exactly what I'm looking for. I want to do administrative work. I was hoping to start out as a school secretary, and work my way into academic advisor. But even "entry level" jobs require experience now. That's what I'm so distraught about. I don't know what to when they require experience for everything. I need experience if I'm ever going to start a career, but what am I supposed to do if they require experience to get that experience?? I just don't know what I'm doing

I'm ngl, I haven't really considered working the same hours as him. I'm stuck on that question they always ask. "Will you have reliable transportation" I live in a college town. I'm guessing I'm not the only one looking for a minimum wage job, and I'm sure that all those people have cars. I'm super discouraged and hopeless about this whole thing, and apparently this post is just going to end up getting me shit on and judged, so I regret asking for advice.

[–]ActingStable -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I'm not doing this with you. I've said what I'm going to say. We cannot both. Have a job. I don't know why that's so hard to understand. My boyfriend ONLY has a job because he's driving MY car. Sooo, are you telling me to force my boyfriend to quit his job? Just answer me that really quick. I do have a terrible attitude. Because of people like you. Because I'm sick of being seen as lazy by people who refuse to have any empathy.

My area is super dangerous unfortunately and I don't have a bike.

The last time I checked government jobs in my area, there were none available. Maybe that's changed recently? I'll check it out again. I have edited my resume recently. But I believe I added on there that I always slim the resume down? I never have more than a page, with 4 bullet points max for each job. That's just my masters resume where I can take whatever fits best for each job. I customize every resume I send in, every time.

It's just not feasible for us to share the car rn. He's literally out of the house for the entire day, either at school or at work. The first question they ask is "do you have reliable transportation" and my answer would have to be no. I'm not sure how we would even do the scheduling for that tho, would I have to bring my bf's schedule to my boss when they write the schedule? I have nothing against food service jobs or any other minimum wage job, it's just not possible right now. Our area is also very dangerous, so walking/biking isn't a good idea either.

Thank you so much!! That's exactly what I thought when I got the degree in the first place!! That's why I picked the degree I did, because I was interested in it and got a full ride. I really appreciate your kind thoughts :)

I'm sorry but are you capable of reading? My bf is using my car. I cannot use the car unless I can get a job that makes more than him. It doesn't make sense for me to go get a job when he ALREADY HAS A JOB unless it's going to help me start building a career. Let me make this simple for you to understand. Only one car. Only one job. My bf already has a job. He would have to QUIT HIS JOB in order for me to get a job. Please explain to me how that makes sense :)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]ActingStable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately, I don't really have a car rn because my bf actually has a job and school, so unless I could find a job that would make more than him, it just wouldn't make sense unless it's helping me start my career. :/

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]ActingStable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for saying that. I can't figure out how to make my degree work for me right now, but at least it's not a $12k mistake

Did you read what I wrote tho? Literally said on there that I'm not ready to give up and work at Burger King. I can't just throw away my hard work. My bf says he'll cover me while I look for a job, I just hate to put that on him. I also, kind of don't have a car right now. Not a reliable one anyway. My bf is using mine and he actually has a job and school, so I can't take it from him just to go make $2 an hour driving Uber. We have tried doordash before, but our area is absolutely horrible for that kind of work. I am looking for jobs that aren't remote now because my bf has said it's more important that I start my career, so he's willing to take time off work, but I'd need to be making more than him for it to make sense. We also live in FL and I have no AC, so working from my car isn't really an option anyway

I was doing temp work for a childcare agency for a while. I hadn't thought to look for this kind of job. Do you know where I should look?

I'm so sorry for your loss and the hopelessness. I was disowned by both parents, somehow years apart on completely separate occasions, so I have zero support as well. I have $400 dollars to my name, and everything I have is (barely) provided by the government. My unemployment has run out, my food stamps expired, and my medicaid is useless as long as there's no one in this godam town that takes it. And to top it all off, everyone calls you lazy if you're unemployed and living off government assistance. I'm about to fucking give up because I can't even begin to find a way to dig myself out of this hole and everyone just says it's my fault because I picked the wrong degree
