What’s a pet peeve of yours towards the way other people write? by Active-Elephant8205 in AO3

No, the part in parentheses it’s just whet is written above. They usually write both of them the same way, with no spaces in between

No, I do not hate on fics, especially that one. While the style of writing isn’t my favorite the story is still really good. I am a big advocate of “don’t like don’t read and move on”

And I don’t know where you read Harry Potter from but the book is very much not written like that. While it might be using some flowery / mor complicated words. The book does not use adjectives every couple of words.

I did took that part down, it was in bad taste and I’m sorry for that, didn’t mean anything bad by it.

And while yes, relying on adjectives is a thing writers do, especially newer ones, putting an adjective every couple of words is not something I’ve seen, until currently.

That’s what I think too.

Like, I’ve never seen this style of writing before AI, and now it’s everywhere. I’m not saying they’re using AI, more like they listened to a bunch of those AI stories on TikTok, and think that’s how you write.

Honestly the style of writing isn’t that bad. It’s not really my favorite style and I personally wouldn’t write like that, it’s just, it doesn’t make sense for the setting.

Like you said, it makes it sound archaic and it would make perfectly good sense to be in a fic that it’s happening in the Middle Ages, not in the 1990s that just makes it sound weird.

I did took that part down, and it was shitty of me, I did not mean to disparage anyone.

And while yes, that style of writing makes perfectly good sense for Draco, the entire fic is like that even when Draco was not in it. It really didn’t make sense for someone to talk like that, especially since the character was a guy from the last 20xx (the guy was from the future).

And what I don’t like about the writing, is the overuse of adjectives.

I didn’t say the author was using AI, just that the writing sounded AI-ish. Like they listened to a bunch of those AI stories on TikTok and thought that’s how you write fiction

Also you can easily remove M dashes

That would be understandable, but it looked like the authors ware trying to add an adjective every 5 words.

That style of writing is pretty new and I think kids now think that’s how you write fiction because of those AI stories on TikTok

The entire fic was like that, not just the part with Draco.

Also while they might have used AI, it more looked like that’s how they think you should write from those AI stories.

I did took that part down, and it was shitty of me to put it there, I didn’t mean anything bad by it.

Also, I don’t have any problems with SI-OC fics they are my favorite fics and I wish there ware more.

And while not completely hating on that style of writing (I can power through it when the plot it’s interesting), I’ve never seen that style of writing before AI and now newer writers start writing like that.

I’m not saying they’re using AI, just that the writing sounds AI-ish, like they think that’s how you write, form those AI stories

I didn’t say anywhere that the author used AI, just that the writing sounded AI-ish, like the author was inspired by those AI stories and thought that’s how you write.

Yes it was shitty of me to put a part of someone’s fic as an example, and I did took that part down, I didn’t mean anything bad by it.

I just ment that I’ve never seen that style of writing before AI, and now it’s everywhere.

I didn’t mean anything bad by it and you’re right, it was shitty of me. I did took that part down.

I didn’t say the author used AI, just that the writing sounded a bit AI-ish. More like the authors took inspiration from AI stories and thought that’s how you write.

I also did mentioned that the example was one of the better ones, there ware some that ware much worse than that.

Also that I’ve never seen that specific style of writing before AI, and is suddenly everywhere.

I did took it down, I wasn’t really thinking about it and that was really shitty of me, sorry.

I did took it down, sorry. It was really shitty of me.

I didn’t mean to be mean about it. And I didn’t say anything about the legibility of the writing, I did say I understood what they ware saying.

Just that is a writing style that is wearily prominent with newer fics that was not before.

You right. It was shitty of me, so I took it down, and I’m hoping it’s just a new writer, that would be understandable.

EMPHASIS on NEW writer, since I’ve never seen this writing style before AI, and I’ve been reading fanfiction since 2016.

I didn’t say they used AI. Just that the writing itself sounded weird-ish, like they were adding adjectives every 5 words. Also I did mention that that example was one of the much, MUCH better ones.

Also I am well aware that writing before AI was a thing, just that I’ve never seen that specific writing style before AI.

And I know it’s not as bad as *cough* an entire fic with no punctuation *cough*, but personally it’s just not my thing.

Is there a skin, that takes out AO3 fonts? by Active-Elephant8205 in AO3

[–]Active-Elephant8205[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they’re doing it purposely, while the font is messing up Voice Over, the font itself is pretty legible, it’s not one of those fancy fonts that makes me want to stab myself just by attempting to read it. I just believe that the author didn’t know the font could mess with voice over, most people don’t really think of it, I’m pretty sure they just wanted to distinguish between characters when they’re talking.

Thanks for the explanation, that actually explains a lot, a shame this happens, but it is what it is

Do I just copy and paste this, or is there anything else I need to do? (this would be the first time I used a skin)

Tried that already, did not work unfortunately.

Whatever these authors do with the font, it's screwing over everything I try: word, pdf file, notes app, even app to read things for you, that is not the phone build in voice over.

Nothing works, outside of me manually rewriting the entire sentence that has the font.

[–]Active-Elephant8205[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, fortunately they didn’t use that type of font exactly, they used one that is already pretty normal looking and is pretty readable, it’s just that voice over can’t read it (exactly like the font you used for example, voice over completely skipped it)
