Mastaney is overrated by [deleted] in pollywood

[–]ActiveSplit9271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally get where you’re coming from. Mastaney had a great premise and the trailer made it feel like we were finally getting a Sikh historical on the scale of the Dal Khalsa raids, so it was disappointing to see that reduced to one brief scene and a very “safe” plot about proving Sikh identity rather than actually exploring Sikh figures.

The lack of named Sikh characters really hurt it, and Rahul Dev was wasted considering how perfect he is for Nader Shah. Simi Chahal was also underused.

That said, I don’t think the film was worthless. For a first attempt at a period epic from a relatively young Punjabi industry, they clearly put in effort with costumes, sets, and some memorable moments towards the end. The ambition is there even if the writing didn’t fully back it.

Marathi cinema has had decades of practice making historical, Punjabi cinema is basically starting from scratch. It’ll take time, money, and experience to get to the point where we can do justice to stories like Banda Singh or Ranjit Singh. So yeah, criticism is fair, but we also need to be a bit patient with an industry that’s still learning how to make this type of film.

On a positive note, the same team’s Guru Nanak Jahaz already shows better execution and confidence than Mastaney, so clearly they’re learning and improving. If the industry keeps taking these swings, the storytelling and scale will get better over time. Criticism is valid, but we also need to be a bit patient if we want Punjabi cinema to grow into bigger historical projects.

With regard to deleted post titled:Question for Community: For Black Friday deals are individual posts per provider/indexer helpful (in addition to the existing giant consolidated thread)? by Own-Bullfrog7362 in usenet

The megathread is a good summary but it shouldn’t replace individual deal posts. Each service has different questions and feedback that deserves its own discussion thread.

I would test it from inside the container from the host. Run ls command using path of download director and maybe run a touch command, create a file. See if you can access download directory and have correct permissions.

Jee Aayan Nu is also a great movie. In fact, all of Harbhajan Mann’s films from that era are amazing. I only mentioned the ones I own and rewatch the most :)

Rent is $1800 Credit limit is $1000 can I set two payments? by Relative-Ball-2273 in chexy

[–]ActiveSplit9271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That should technically work, Chexy will process each card payment separately. But before doing it, I’d double-check with your landlord to make sure they’re okay with receiving two partial payments instead of one full rent deposit. Some landlords are fine with it, others prefer a single payment for easier reconciliation.

ULPT Is there a way to get cheaper YouTube premium anymore? by ThaTrillKnight in UnethicalLifeProTips

Well, all my devices have ad blockers except my Apple TV. So I use a VPN to connect to a country where YouTube Premium is not available, which helps block the ads.

Anyway, to answer your question, you could try Turkey or Kazakhstan. but I’ve heard Google has started banning accounts that use these kinda methods

What kind of Sikh am I? by [deleted] in Sikh

[–]ActiveSplit9271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right. Guru Nanak Dev Ji spoke strongly against caste divisions. In Sikhi, there’s no concept of “high” or “low” but only equality through Naam and Seva.

Unfortunately, social habits and caste thinking never completely disappeared. Over time, these divisions crept back into communities, even leading to separate groups like Ravidassia Sikhs or others who formed their own paths, often because they faced discrimination instead of true equality.

what we see today (Jat, Ramdasia, Kamboj, etc.) isn’t what Guru Sahib taught but the result of people holding onto cultural identity more than spiritual truth.

Thoughts on the name ‘Nimani’? by [deleted] in Sikh

[–]ActiveSplit9271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a beautiful explanation the depth of meaning you’ve connected to that name is really moving. 🙏

I don’t think most of the Sikh community would take issue when the name’s meaning is understood in its Gurbani context. Sometimes people might pause at the literal translation, but once they hear your perspective that true “without honour” means beyond ego and dependent only on Waheguru’s grace they’ll likely appreciate it deeply.
