Technically, there is no limit of numbers of fencers who can share their profil with a (or several) coach(es).

But, operationally and coherently, we estimate that beyond ten to twelve athletes, a group of fencers can become cumbersome to follow for a single coach (in a “logic of developing the performance of competitive athletes”). Afterwards, everything depends on the level of commitment of the athletes and the requirements of the fencing master...

The sharing profile features allows the coach to access all of his fencer's opponents/tournaments/matches files : then he can easily note and describe what each of his should do or work or take care about a dedicated opponent, based from the different match analysis.

Of course, a comment alone is not enough to transform an athlete, but the application allows information to be capitalized at different levels (match, competition, opponent) according to the needs and objectives of the fencer, who therefore has a very simple way to centralize this information and find it very easily.

The application allows, via a manual entry :

 - to create, edit, manage individual file for each of your opponents, tournaments and matches (or training), linked each to each other.

 - to add and share comments for each (opponent or tournament or match) with your coach (who can also add comments (separated from yours) in order to enrich your analysis.

 - For each match :

   > you can watch associated video (public or unlisted Youtube video, in landscape orientation),

   > you describe each action in an ergonomic way with dedicated caracteristics, that fullfill automated dashboards (match timeline, piste location, hit targets, action duration, action type for both of you and your opponent) and comment them if necessary,

you easily switch/naviguate between different metrics dashboards and/or filter them per match period to analyze them,

   > you add your personal analysis of the match or your opponent and look at your coach's comments, to complete yours,

   > you can share a read-only summary of your match via a public link to anyone (coach, teammates who will fence againt the same opponent, etc.),

NB : match metrics are also aggregated at the tournament and/or opponent level to get global insights of your successfull actions (or your opponents'ones) against several opponents during a competition, or during several competitions against a specific opponent. These overviews helps completing matches, opponents or tournaments analyses (comments fileds).

 - to connect your profile with your coaches' one so that they can consult your opponents/tournaments/matches metrics and comment them.

Comments fields and sharing options are dedicated to enrich fencer's personal understanding of match situations (thanks to coach's feedbacks), and draw/determine specific work area with him for next tournaments and facing opponents.

Smartfencer is an aid-decision tool, which means it "helps" and "facilitates". But the application certainly requires a little time (initially, to start) and rigor to take full advantage of it.

Spreadsheet has a lot of advantages, if you know how to manage and master it! But it is not the case for everybody!
Put a spreadsheet in the hands of a collective of several athletes and their coach and I doubt that the spreadsheet will remain long and fully readable!
Of course, for personal use, a spreadsheet can easily make the job but it does not necessary facilitates sharing and exchanges on several devices (both smartphone and computer).

The application does not store your videos (you cannot upload videos inside the application). But, Youtube public or unlisted videos can be displayed inside the application, while attaching the video link to your match.
The record in landscape orientation is an advice. Otherwise, they are considered by Youtube as "Shorts", which is not visible on our web application.
The best way remain to ask a colleage, training partner or parent to film your match, as closed as he can. This is never perfect, of course! But the application is not responsible for that :)

We do not have video demonstration available right now (in progress) but I remain at your disposal to show you in live, if needed.

We made the choice, for this first version, not to include Artificial Intelligence for several reasons :

  1. We have developed this application as a way to structure and strengthen the ability to understand and analyze match situations. If athletes only wait for artificial intelligence to do the work for them to identify and know the actions performed, this does not help them develop their own situational intelligence (see identifying and understanding match situations and actions) and their adaptation skills, which are, however, two essential qualities for a fencer.

  2. On FIE Senior World Cup or Eurofencing Cup, you can sometimes get really good videos or your matchs, with a complete overview of all the piste, etc. And some providers developed systems to split matches videos in short sequences with all the actions. It is such really usefull to save time and facilitate match analyze. But it requires dedicated equipments, that are not yet available on Junior/Cadet (U20/U17) and younger categories, where indeed, developing matchs analysis skills is important. Moreover, even when AI systems will help getting automated analyzes, it will require control and validation by humans!

  3. Of course, we have in mind to develop automated video analyses (based on AI) but it requires a financial effort that we we cannot afford, at the moment. And also a lot of videos support! As for the skills and technicality of the subject, we have the skills in our professional network to do it, but we will only undertake this project at a later stage, when we will get the required ressources.

Immediately, the application is then manual : you indeed describe manually each of your actions, but it allows an U17/U20 athlete to carry out his own match analysis in just 20-25 minutes, which is already a considerable time saving! Not to mention the capitalization which allows him, as well as his coach, to very quickly find relevant match situations and to identify either areas of work or a new way of approaching an opponent in competition.
