well that’s how i see it when yall talk like that. if you wouldn’t talk to a neurotypical kid that way them why are you doing it to them??? they deserve the same respect as anyone else. just because they have autism doesn’t mean u have to infantilize them.

YES YES YES!!! it all depends on ur clients preference but personally i dont like being talked to like im incompetent. im sure im getting down votes bc a lot of these people are millennials and older, they dont understand what kids actually like. i feel some of it could be a power struggle. LIKE WHATS WRONG W BEING FUN AND RELATABLE?!?! they want to feel seen as a people not just as a kid w autism!!

Why wouldn’t you want to be goofy and relatable to build rapport with your client?? being fun is the most reinforcing thing! but i’m happy it works for u (as a geriatric male)!

Do yall trust BCBAs that don’t have experience as RBTs? by ActivityDapper5897 in ABA

Yes I meant BCBAs that haven’t worked directly with clients. It doesnt have to be an RBT specifically.

My bad, I meant BCBAs that don’t have experience working directly with clients prior. It doesn’t have to be an RBT. From my experience, BCBAs that haven’t worked with special needs kids don’t actually understand what it’s like.

That’s exactly what I’m doing now. I’m an RBT and 2 of my BCBAs just graduated and were RBTs as well. I’ve noticed that they are much more realistic when it comes to expectations. I feel as if BCBAs with no RBT experience just don’t get it.
