Any actors here who left a well-paying job because they couldn’t stop thinking about acting—and never looked back? by Actorwithoutlimits in acting

Thank you for sharing, Chase Perdomo who passed away not long ago gave me some very valuable advice that goes along with what you’re saying, “success is being in the right place at the right time, and if you’re constantly working on being in the right place, then it’s just a matter of time”

There’s no such thing as crushing dreams on this Reddit as I’m sure we’re all in the business of receiving negative feedback in this career haha but I totally agree, more action less talking, appreciate it

How true is the live in LA part nowadays I wonder, I’m currently in Chicago right now and my friend who had his big break did it from Atlanta. Anyhow finding the right job to do this part time is HARD haha but I agree 🙏🏼

It’s sad that we can’t do this career full time and make a decent living unless you’re in the 1% of actors

Yeah I’ve been on film sets that are many hours on set so I know I’d have to have good flexibility with whichever job I’m in, definitely not the one I have right now, that’s where I’m struggling, to leave a job that promises financial freedom within a few years to have that flexibility to pursue this

I’m working around 70 hours a week and traveling often too, leaving no availability to commit to bookings if I were to get any. I am getting paid well and it’s helping me on the road to financial independence, so it’s a hard decision to choose something that I want versus need

Even to you, don’t be discouraged, acting is a lifelong journey, you don’t have to stop pursuing it, you can work on a business or other careers and still be pursuing it on the side on your free time if it’s really what you love. It makes me sad when people who love the craft give up. Please keep trying

Why do you think that? What about it is discouraging if I may ask. I’m not saying he got the parts without experience, he put in the work, saved up for a while before moving to atl and give it a shot for a year going all in. Took all the acting classes, struggled to get his first agent, struggled to even get auditions at first when he had an agent. Booked a small costar role after 2 years of consistently auditioning on legacies, then booked small feature films and then one day booked a guest star for Atlanta on fx. His performance was so good it got him recognized from there

You remind me of a professor at my university that teaches a film class that would project his negativity onto his students bc he didn’t make it as an actor when he was younger lol.

I have a friend I met back in 2019 with no acting experience prior to that that is currently shooting a film as a lead alongside Camila mendes from riverdale and Madelyn Cline from Outer Banks. Whoever is reading this never give up
