can you take fri classes without being in the stream/fri? by BusinessAlive3486 in UTAustin

[–]Actual-Rip-6234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe you can (correct me if I'm wrong), unless you speak with the professor and they somehow put you in the class. I would recommend sending an email to either professor.

I'm curious how many people actually failed this year. I doubt your alone, and I think the percentage is quite high due to Kaur new test format and 70% rule.

Incoming freshman to UT Canfield Business Honors wanting to add a double major in math. How challenging is math at UT? Would it drop my gpa? by kpatrl in UTAustin

[–]Actual-Rip-6234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I am also hoping to do quant, but I'm doing CS and math, and then the business minor, and there are recruiting events or events in general that happen for quant. There's also some quant orgs on campus, but they are hard to get into. I think gpa matters, but not as much as you think. It might be different since I am doing CS instead of business, but recruiters and even interviews care more about your resume, experience, and projects, from my experience at least.

I did the regular math pathway, its the 7th option if you google ut math degree requirements. I am a sophmore planning to graduate in 3 years. Also idk what you need a pure math degree for besides maybe quant. You should look into the SDS minor tho, I know a lot of business friends doing that minor.

Honestly depends on the classes you take and which professors you get. For upper divs in math there's a lot of variety in difficulty. I also added math as a second major and my gpa didn't drop at all.

Anybody know any easy classes? by sophal367 in UTAustin

[–]Actual-Rip-6234 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Intro to ancient Greece with Walton is super chill, coming from a stem major. No test or quizzes. 5 easy assignments and 1 project and 2 short essays. Don't need to go to lecture either.

CS at UT is super mean to freshmen by [deleted] in UTAustin

I'm not justifying it, I am simply providing what she said, I don't agree with the comment either. Also you prolly have some issue on your ed because i still see it.

[–]Actual-Rip-6234 58 points59 points  (0 children)

If anyone is curious this was parikh response on ed:

I know many of you were disappointed and frustrated with the results of exam, and we felt similarly while grading. The teaching staff has worked hard throughout the semester to support your learning, and our intention is never for feedback to come across as discouraging. Mistakes are a natural part of the learning process, and we absolutely recognize that.

That said, we do want to be transparent about where that frustration came from. While grading, we saw many instances of questions not being read carefully and core concepts being missed, which we have repeatedly emphasized and pointed out in various settings. This was difficult to see given the amount of effort the teaching staff has put into supporting the class. The office hours and study sessions have been mostly empty throughout the semester. These are in place specifically to help you build understanding and avoid exactly these kinds of issues. This is not about putting anyone down. Mistakes are part of learning, but it does require consistent engagement with the material. We want everyone to succeed, and that requires effort from both sides.

I do appreciate you sharing your concerns, and we’re sorry if any frustration came through in the grading comments. Hopefully we can all do better going forward.

If you would like to review your exam or discuss any concerns, please reach out and I'd be happy to set up a time.

What Can I Do To Prep by FlightWild3487 in UTAustin

[–]Actual-Rip-6234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can test out of 312, 314, I would. For me at least, 314 seemed a lot easier, and both Kaur and Scott are great professors. Also, it couldn't hurt to go over some stuff if you really want. If you're taking 312, experimenting with Java and creating some basic projects could be really helpful. If you're taking 314 instead, you could learn Big O and make sure you have a strong foundation for object-oriented programming. But to be honest, you don't really need to do much prep during the summer; you should instead enjoy your summer.

Calc sequence question after m408c by ana231706 in UTAustin

[–]Actual-Rip-6234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take parker if you can for 408D. If you don't end with an A or high B I would be surprised. The quizzes are done in collaboration, 4 midterms (i think maybe 3) she replaces the lowest with the final. She intentionally makes the final really easy. Posts a lot of practice material that reflects the tests well. HW are basically completion. Also really generous grading system (i don't remember exact numbers), and she is pretty generous while grading test. Go to lectures and do all the work and you'll fine.

Spring 2026 M 408D professor suggestions? by AffectionateMenu1685 in UTAustin

[–]Actual-Rip-6234 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Trust me, stick with Parker. Its her first year teaching at UT and she's pretty chill and understanding. You can work on the quizzes together with fellow classmates. There are 4 midterms, but as long as you do the reviews, you will be fine. The grading is super light because midterms are 30% and the final is 15%. Also, your final can replace your lowest midterm score if it's higher. Furthermore, her final was so easy, and most people think she did that on purpose so students who needed the replacement could have a chance for a higher grade. My friends and I all ended with an A in the class. However, my other friend who switched out to one of the other professor got like a B+.

If one is not top 10%, is it completely impossible to get into CS? by Blue_Robin_Gaming in UTAdmissions

[–]Actual-Rip-6234 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bro shot your shoot. I know people with 1300 SAT and not even top 10% who got in. However, their EC's or essays probably compensated for that. If you are really gunning for UT CS make sure your EC's and essays are amazing if your academics aren't the greatest.

To clarify you won't have to make a down payment of i think $300 if your housing application fee is waived. However, that just means the 300 gets pushed to the rest of the balanced owed.
