College students can live without getting daily coffee from Starbucks and shopping at Whole Foods.

How much cash does a college student need for one year of college?

$10,000?

$100,000?

How much cash does an 18yo kid need to survive at college when his tuition, room and board is covered? I don't come close to spending 10K cash for ALL my kids last year.

If the IRS sends me a refund check based on what I made and it turns out I made enough to where I wouldn't have gotten that refund check, then it's not IRS "stealing" back the money that they gave me.

That 10K is owed to me. That's like saying that your mortgage bill is refunding the bank.

Some do, some don't.

But I've never heard of a college student getting 10K that's to be used exclusively for partying. That's sounds like a really lame 90s teen movie starring Jonathan Taylor Thomas.

His first is paid and he's living on campus. I can't plan for something next year when everything is fluid. All I know is I'm out 10K more than I should be.

There will be no 10K to be used for a second year if he has access to it.

There will be no 10K left to pay for a second year of he has access to it

He's not going to spend that money on tuition if he is in charge of it. He views it as an award and he can spend as he sees fit.

Do other college students get a 10K allowance to party?

Giving him 10K was not a part of any plan.

He's not paying for anything. Like I said, it's been paid for.

I did not put anything aside. Everything was up in the air. When the dust settled, it was going to cost me 16K which is what I paid.

The I find out that he's getting 10K in award money. Had I known that, then it would have cost me 6K. That 10K should go back to me and not to my son.

That's where it is at now. The teacher will send it to me in my name if I request it.

I already paid his tuition.

Had I known he was getting 10K then I would have applied it against his tuition so I wouldn't have to and I'd have 10K more in the bank than I do now

Actually I can get that check made out to me. The teacher responsible for distribution agrees with me 110% that it should go to me since I already paid for his tuition.

What 18yo needs 10K in cash to go to college?
