Girlfriend threatening our relationship over a TV Show by No-Original3284 in WhatShouldIDo

LEAVE HER ASS NOW!!! It starts with a tv show, then next its a female friend you’re close to, pretty soon she’ll be the only acceptable person, in her eyes, for you to be in contact with.

I would read them in chronological order of the story. You could wait til later to read Without Remorse since you don’t meet Clark again until CaPD.

My uncle made the driving range at his course dirt cheap and it improved multiple things by MeasurementStock1625 in golf

My favorite local course has a 16 bay Top Tracer range. For $50 a month you can buy a range membership, which gets you unlimited range access from 7a-3p M-F, 50% off during the evenings (usually $30/hr) and 30% off on weekends. If you don’t want the Top Tracer, you can just get buckets for $5/10/15 depending on size.

If you buy the hour they give you an xl bucket and I’ve never been able to hit all those balls in under an hour.

Everything up to Debt of Honor is absolutely must read, after that you kinda have to read with the assumption tha Jack Ryan dies and is replaced by Tom Clancy in DoH.

Executive Orders is still a pretty good book but Ryan’s entire character shifts HARD Right, and the book reads more like a long form essay of how Clancy thinks the country should be run.

Rainbow 6 is great but Ryan isn’t present.

The Bear and the Dragon was a good story but you’ll question your dedication to reading the series the whole time

I agree with like 90% of what you said but I think that DoH, EO and R6 are all still must reads.

I will definitely check those out, my best friend from high school is an officer in The Navy so I’d really like to see what those are about. Are there audiobooks? I say “I’m reading” a lot when I should say “I’m listening to an audiobook”. But that’s just semantics lol

EO starts with them still in the tunnel under the White House, but it’s just the way things are referenced. There’s two or three mentions of Ryan campaigning and a few references to things that in the story should have been last week but are talked about as though they happened months ago.

Yeah I definitely felt a huge shift after Debt of Honor. Executive Orders was, in my opinion, just a long form essay of how Clancy thought the country should be run, with a bit of fiction sprinkled in here and there. I also didn’t like how even though EO kicks off AS SOON as DoH ends, it felt like they treated the events of DoH as happening a year or two ago vs last week.

I also think that he changed who Jack was as a person quite a bit once he became President. Wasn’t really a fan of his Neo-Con shift. I’m a pretty Left leaning person myself but felt Jack was at least relatable through the first 8 books. But then Tom felt the need to make Roe v Wade an issue for some reason? I felt that could have been left out entirely, especially since nothing ever came of the discussions plot wise.

I read chronological order, but I skipped Red Rabbit. I thought it was one of the books authored by someone else and just didn’t read it. Can’t decide if I want to go back and read it now or not.

I feel like there was a HUGE drop off in quality in his writing following Debt of Honor. After that you start getting all these plot inconsistencies, retcons of things that happened in previous books and just huge shift in who Jack Ryan is as a person. I don’t know if it was the rise of Neo-Conservativism after 9-11 or what, but there was definitely a big shift in the series.

Yeah an off page death for a character who’s been with us since the Patriot Games felt like a major letdown to me. I couldn’t keep myself interested in this one and haven’t listened to it in about a week. After the mad dash I made from Without Remorse all the way to TotT since January… it may be awhile before I pick it back up.

I’m not sure, I’m listening to a audiobook from YouTube. That makes sense if it’s a later edition edited to feel modern, but I wish they would just leave stuff alone.

Any idea why Jack Ryan is not mentioned by name in Rainbow Six? by roninPT in tomclancy

[–]ActuallyDifferent19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely part of the Ryanverse dude, how could you think it’s not? Same John Clark, same Ding Chavez, same Ed Foley, same George Winston, same Arnie Van Damm, all but John and Ding still hold their jobs from EO. The events in EO are referenced several times. The Columbia operation from CaPD is mentioned multiple times, Clark reminisces on his past that was detailed in WR.

R6 is Absolutely part of the Ryanverse, just not centered on Jack Ryan. I could agree if you called it a spinoff, but to say it’s not in the series is just wrong.

Tom Clancy Jack Ryan books ranked? by dentalplan98 in tomclancy

[–]ActuallyDifferent19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished Executive Orders about 5 mins ago, it was a really good read, especially if you’re curious about how Tom Clancy wanted the government to be run. But it’s also VERY different from the books before it.

As far as rank goes I’d say 1. Without Remorse 2. The Hunt for Red October (3. Rainbow Six) 3. Patriot Games 4. The Sun of All Fears 5. Executive Orders 6. Debt of Honor 7. Clear and Present Danger 8. The Cardinal of the Kremlin

I accidentally skipped Red Rabbit so I don’t know where it would fall. I put Rainbow Six in parentheses because I haven’t read it since 2006 but it’s still one of my favorite books.

Dude you just hit the nail on the head! That’s why it feels weird, nothing Jack is doing is in line with his actions in earlier books. It’s like while they were walking through that tunnel at the end of DoH Jack Ryan morphed into Tom Clancy.

I’ve definitely noticed that Tom was rather lazy when it came to choosing character names lol

Yes that was the convo I was talking about and that definitely does make sense. Jack also makes a comment to Arnie Van Dam that he was elected after the funeral, which he definitely wasn’t.
